Ask Angie: Valentine's Day outfit

I would like to create a Valentine's Day outfit that will make by boyfriend totally melt when he sees me. He is a keeper, and this is our first Valentine's Day together, so I am putting in a little more thought than I normally would.

I will be wearing the dress in the first photograph. It appears in the photograph to me metallic, but it is sequin. The hemline is around mid-thigh or slightly below. I want to wear a minidress.

Photograph #2 is the shoes I am leaning toward wearing. Red sequin sparkly, 4 1/2" heel with a 3/4 inch platform, with a bow tie at the toes. I just purchased these and I should receive them later this week.

Photograph #3: I just found these pantyhose online and am seriously thinking about getting them, neutral with pink hearts.

Photograph #4: These are some other pantyhose I am considering, all of which I own. White, neutral, red, light pink, dark pink. While I am considering all of them, my own lean is toward the two pinks, especially the dark pink, partly because of input from the YLF community.

Angie: What would be your choices of pantyhose with that dress and those shoes for the occasion and what I am trying to do? Do you think the heart ones are the best, or one of the colors? Looking forward to reading your commentary.

I like the dress! Maybe with another pair of shoes? But if you're set on wearing the shoes with the dress, I like the dark pink pantyhose best.

My first thought was actually the white stockings to really show off the red dress and shoes by the contrast. Then I read Bijou’s reply on your other thread that she felt red and white seemed more Christmassy whereas red/pink seemed more Valentines. I find the darker pink too pink. So I am (the only one) voting for the lighter pink!

i like the heart nylons, but for me, wearing them with the red dress and shoes, on valentines day takes the outfit in the direction of a costume...i'd save the heart nylons for another day...maybe your anniversary? or the date that he proposes?

Any of the nylons will be awesome with your outfit, but I vote for the ones with the hearts, as they will keep some attention on your legs, if you want him to notice. With the solid colors, the attention would keep going back to the dress and shoes. The heart stockings are the sexiest. I like the light pink the best of the colors.

April, Angie, and kkards: I think i figured out what you see. My perception of costume is dressing in a way that imitates someone else, but some can include dressing in a way that is specific to an occasion. The latter is what I am trying to do, a Valentine's Day specific outfit. I don't feel costumey, as I am not imitating anyone else, I created my own look (taking into account, of course, the wonderful opinions from all of you).

I have received all the pieces. I'm really partial to the heart tights and the bow pumps, though my "back up" outfit (in case it snows that night) would be the boots with the dark pink nylons. I took the collective wisdom of the forum here into account, though I ma open to additional last minute comments.

JenniNZ: You have a good point. I would likely choose the lighter pink with a dress and shoes that are not sparkly. There is company that makes a limited number of sparkly nylons, you will see one of them in my Christmas Eve post in WIW (when I get to it LOL), but they do not make them in pink.

I will let you know how things go (probably in WIW). We will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Saturday rather that Friday. Gives me a chance to get ready, and he indicated that the extra time would be easier on him, too. We're going out Friday, too, but we're both off Saturday. It sounds as though he has something planned. Hmmm...
