Ask Angie: Turtleneck challenge

Quite a number of us seem to be trying to mix old favorites with recent additions for fall.

I've rediscovered two lovely, totally classic, cashmere turtlenecks, one black and one chocolate. They are so soft and appealing (even in this heat), but I can't seem to style them to say anything but timeless and elegant.

How do you nudge a classic (and a winter necessity) to give it a bit of edge?

Long sleeveless vest/jacket like Sveta's Trouvé NAS purchase (sold out... I WANT!) over turtleneck w black cigarette pants and booties. And I just got a long mango pinstripe topper on eBay after coveting it, do that sort if thing too over column of black.

I just live in black turtlenecks in winter. Try to brighten up around face w jaunty scarf or bold silver jewelry, also look great w boyfriend jeans in pretty much any wash with black above knee wool coat / topper

I guess it depends what look you are going for. From what you say you want to veer a little off classic with the T neck yes?

Here are some pics of outfits I love with T necks that skew a little more edgy and avant garde. Also I realise most of these are sleeveless tnecks but I think similar styling could work for long sleeve.

Turtlenecks are great backdrops for really interesting pants, skirts, shoes, and toppers since they don't distract at all (as long as the neckline works).

Here's some ways I wore turtlenecks trying for a little edge in the outfits too. (In the first one the collar is messed up, ignore that bit. In the second ignore the 3rd and 4th looks.)

Cerinda, first things first. Are the fits current, and do you feel fabulous in a t-neck?

Angie, the fits aren't that current --not fluid and oversized, but neither are they body con: they're body skimming, have slim arms, and hit at hip, the necks are trim but not tourniquets. I feel pretty neither-here-nor-there in turtlenecks, but definitely fab in good cashmere.

So, with black skinnies, black boots, splashy black bag, and an asymmetric charcoal car coat? I can't seem to come up with an indoor look...
