Ask Angie: Trench style indoors?

I've seen a lot of trench style jackets, cropped and less cropped. Are these appropriate for wearing indoors (e.g. at work)? It seems like the bang for your buck is really cut down if you can't take advantage of the fab factor indoors, doubly so if you live in a warm climate like I do. In general what's the difference between a jacket meant just for outdoors and one that's not?

I know what you are talking about! I love the trench coat look! I'm trying to find one I truly love right now to invest in.

I like the idea of wearing a trench inside and I think you can pull it off. I personally think it all has to do with the sleeve length. If you can find a trench with sleeves that go to the elbow or higher your in! Then depending on the length of the piece depends on what bottoms you wear and your own personal style. Add a chuck piece on your wrist or finger and your there!

Just make sure the trench won't make you too warm indoors.

This is an interesting question and I know exactly what you mean. I think that the aspect of outwear vs innerwear with respect to trenches has more to do with fabrication and length. There are shorter, lightweight, unlined, cotton trenches that you can get away with wearing indoors. In fact they are more like belted jackets. Heavier, fully lined, knee length trenches are clearly not suppose to be worn indoors. Military Mama makes a sound suggestion as well.
