Ask Angie: the green dress!

Lots of us are gaga over the fab green ruched dress you posted about. I have it, as do others. I may speak for all of us when I ask, "where are all the other fab dresses that are flattering, versatile, classic, yet contemporary, and long enough, etc., etc.?" If I had 4 or 5 equally fab dresses, I'd be tempted to clear my closet of most everything else because the green dress rocks. Is it just one in a million?

I love this dress, and others seem to feel the same. I always receive comments and questions when I wear it.

You in that dress *is* one in a million :). KILLER to the power of KILLER.

I hear you, Kyle. It's just not a dress season - as was forecast. It's a trouser season - and you scored with those too! Most dresses are just too short - even for me and I am regular height. Hardly any woven dresses, and most with plunging necklines and cap sleeves.

I'm crying along with you! I haven't found one dress this season that is long enough! I'm the same height as Angie and have encountered the exact same thing.

Kyle, the green dress is amazing on you! I have a purple Suzi Chin for Maggie Boutique winter dress that I have posted before on the forum, and I love that it is long enough and has sleeves. After seeing your dress, I think I am going to look more into that label and see what else they offer.

Good grief. This dress got a five-star rating on the Nordstrom site. I wish the retailers would take notice of the styles we love. It's quite clear from discussions on YLF that there is a market for longer hemlines, and many in that market are ready to buy. It's a big gap just waiting to be filled. In the meantime, I'm sewing my own dress, with a hemline of my choosing, though sadly I don't think it will be a match for Suzy Chin.

Love it! You look great. I've been hemming and hawing over this dress. I want it, but I need it to come down in price first. I'm 5'10" also and this dress is the answer to a lot of my fashion prayers. If I might ask, does it run small, true to size or large?

Anne, I usually wear a size 6 or 8, depending on a range of factors. Although the fabric has lots of stretch, it is a very form fitting, body hugging style (though thankfully, the ruching is forgiving). With that in mind, if you are torn between two sizes, you might want to err on the larger rather than smaller side. If you are generally one specific size, I'd stick with what you usually wear. Overall, I think the dress isnessentially true to size.

Laura, thank you. I ran across this in the store, tried it on, and was crestfallen. It had all the makings of a real winner, but it just did not work on me...at all. Funny how that happens sometimes, isn't it?

Oh Kyle, sorry to hear that. I've got one on order but I'll be keeping my expectations low. It is definitely funny how two similar dresses can fit so differently!
