Ah! This has come up before. Where is that thread? I think GirlX asked this question a few months ago.
Dana, in a nutshell - not that often.
- I rarely have items altered, actually.
- More often than not, my jeans gape at the back (I have a slight sway back), so I have waistbands altered when necessary.
- I never need to alter trousers and skirts. Somehow, they always seem to fit (unless the lengths are too short).
- I am regular height, and items virtually never need to be hemmed. I even found cropped pants at the perfect length in Japan.
- I am not all that bothered about extra waist definition, so when a style in supposed to fit very closely on the waist, I am happy to wear it less tight. I think that has become part of my look.
- I sometimes move buttons on coats and jackets so that the shoulders and torso are shaped to perfection.
- I have long arms, so long sleeves are often short. But when you scrunch and wear things bracelet length, it all works out
- Formal dresses often require an extra dart or tuck so they usually end up being altered.
It's not that everything that I try on fits perfectly all the time. Not at all. But I am extremely fussy about my clothing fits. I will not purchase items that do not fit *virtually* 100% straight off the rack. When you have a minimal and polished style - things must fit to the letter because that is what will take centre stage.
I hope that makes sense.
