Ask Angie: Style input?

Hi Angie,

Once you get settled back, can I get a little style input? I feel I have figured out some things but now I feel I am spinning my wheels and don't know what to do next. When I look at my collage of outfits, I feel it is all just ok, not fab enough and want to start all over. But that is just out of the question.

Perhaps some of this feeling comes from that I am switching jobs and I don't know if the next one will be as uber casual as the current one. So I would like to add some dressier pieces to my current wardrobe.

I'd love to help, Jayne. Not sure *how* you would like me to help though - at least, not from this thread. Or perhaps I am just jet lagged and not really understanding your question

Are you asking advice as to which new pieces you should add to your wradrobe?

I have this picture collage of my current spring wardrobe, and need a little help deciding if it is a fab wardrobe, and what I am doing right/wrong. Then it would be nice to get help deciding what to add or replace to make it a bit less casual. I think my new job might be more dressy, but nothing to the extremes of the US.

Upon quick glance, I see no skirts or handbags. How about some of those?

I like your items! It really depends on how well things fit, Jayne. For example, I tend to like you in longer blazers with trousers and jeans.

Thanks, I posted the pictures of me wearing the actual outfits lower in the thread, at the end. Are there any of the jackets shown in the actual outfit shots that I should avoid? I think the shortest ones are the white, blue striped and black tux that all hit me about the top of the hip.

I admit to avoiding skirts because of the cold and general problem finding long enough ones. So I am going to go ahead and push on an idea to get some made for me instead.

For cold weather, is it ok to wear boots at knee height, thus the top of the boot would be hidden standing? I guess I am avoiding visible tights because only black look decent on these legs. I don't like black much in spring.

(Apparently I need to invest more in this spring wardrobe as spring is longer than I thought here- I have never thought much about it before.)

The pics in the other post is really great! You have mentioned investing in a blazer, havn't you? A blazer and a skirt would add some extra dimension to your wardrobe. How do you feel about a denim skirt? To me that mixes both casual (sporty) and business, especially if you get a darker and saturated color, or go towards a gray scale.

Working on your business wardrobe, you could give it some time to adjust to your new job. Or if you are really patient, you could get more spring items on sale in july/august or make a plan and wait until next year (yes, maybe a bit boring, but I'm just thinking baby steps ;-))

Why would the top of the boots be hidden while standing? Do you have over-knee boots?

About black tights, I don't mind wearing black, even in summer, if you add other spring/summer elements. You could also try grey or charcoal which is a bit softer than solid black. Or maybe even midnight blue.

Do you want spring items right away, or could you do with just a dash of spring? Like a ring, bracelet, necklace or scarf ? I saw some really nice at Indiska the other day, but can't find it on their web site, just this ring: http://indiska.com/Accessoarer.....33347MULTI

I prefer boots that are not OTK with skirts and dresses at the lengths that you wear them, Jayne.

Harmonica, great ideas. and I love that ring. I will have to read it again to capture it all, but I am seriously trying to find a lady to make me some midi skirts! Since they are so NOT in the stores (as you probably know). And then in the fall, when I want to be in black again, I thought to invest in a super jacket/blazer. Like use the whole month budget on it. I am soooo tempted by Ricco Vero for example. Harmonica, what shoes are you willing to wear with skirts right now? It is so cold I just don't want to expose toes and most of my foot. And prefer to avoid the tights too!

Angie, I was intending to try to get midi skirts, right under the knee. I assume that is the best length to flatter me, So the OTK boots were to go with midi skirts. Not above the knee. I understand these above the knee skirts are not the best look for me.

Do you have maxi skirts in your stores instead? If you can't find a midi, but a great maxi, you could get it hemmed to midi length. That would probably be cheaper then getting someone to sew you a whole skirt (short of sewing it yourself). Just a thought! There really aren't that many midi skirts here either, that's why I couldn't leave the one I bought today at the store. I had to at least ask YLF about it!
