Hi Angie,
I was just checking your blog post with my morning cup of coffee and there was a link on the page to this article:

It suggests that skinny jeans might soon be passe. I think I've asked this question before (because I've seen articles like that before) but I thought I'd check again. Please tell me the skinny jean has become a classic? I don't think they make me look like a chubby ice-cream cone!

The number one trouser silhouette on all the runways is *still* skinny pants and tapered styles. Nothing comes close to topping it.

Wide legs and flares were supposed to be SO big in 2011 - and few people bought into the vibe. Tapered legs and bootcuts still reign supreme.

Remember when all the magazines and TV style pros said that skinnies and leggings were a one season thing about 6/7 years ago? They couldn't have been MORE wrong.

Also, consumers have the power to keep a trend going. Tapered legs are too practical to become passe.

I would call skinnies mainstream, but not classic. Bootcuts are classic.

I just wish the skinny-jean haters would stop writing articles like this. It's not like it's the only jeans silhouette out there. There are other cuts, and plenty of them. Why are some people so anxious for this one particular cut to disappear? I don't get it.

First of all it is good to hear that you are recovering from your surgery nicely, Elisabeth!
Secondly I think the thing that blogger wrote about skinnies is a complete rubbish (not the part that they will be out but the part that they are unflattering)! They are very flattering in the right outfit combination and nothing like an ice cone. "Flattering" bootcuts can look aweful too if worn in unflattering way. It is true that you can see a lot of women around wearing skinnies in a bad way - with too tight, too short tops and wrong footwear and totally wrong proportions - but there are scores of women who rock the style (YLF is a sound proof)!
I hope they are here to stay too as they are also practical into addition to being cool when styled right! I love my wide leg trousers but cannot wear them as often as I want because I need the right weather and higher heels for them. Skinnies on the other hand defy any weather and embrace all heel heights and it makes them even more awesome!
Can you tell that I jumped on the skinnies bandwagon pretty late but with vengeance?

Yes, I agree, they are WAY too mainstream to disapear anytime soon. I was suprised when the much touted "flare" cut never really took off this past fall. It seems women (and teenaged boys, lol) much prefer the skinny. Could it be that it makes shoe choices so much simpler?

I would look at what the premium denim houses are doing. If you look at 7's new arrivals page (granted they are not the edgiest of designers) http://www.7forallmankind.com/.....8;PageNo=0

... there are 26 jeans featured. 15 of them are skinny or straight leg. The remainder are flared or bootcut or wideleg. That's still a majority in the tpaered silhouette.

I saw that article too this morning and I thought to myself, I'm not giving up my skinnies any time soon that's for sure. I also very much disagree that they are unflattering. It was the super lowrise pants that we so unflattering.

I am probably being disrespectful but what is a modern baby? Skinny jeans are rock n roll and will remain so long after they have lost their mass appeal.

I also think it is important to note that skinny jeans can be unflattering when the proportions are off, ice cream cone = too short top IMO

I think anything can be unflattering when the size or outfit proportions are wrong. There is nothing inherently wrong with any trend, as long as people wearing it take their bodies into consideration. So really, are too-small-skinnies that much worse than muffin-top-making low-rise jeans with thongs sticking out? To my eye, those two are equally off-putting. In short, one needs to put thought into applying any trend to their body, be it skinnies, flares, boxy shapes, etc.

Hmmm I was really bummed that more people didn't get into the flare/wide-leg thing this past spring, though skinny is probably my favorite jean shape (also a late adopter *waves to Sveta*). I agree with Julie: even if it becomes less mainstream, skinnies are very rock-n-roll so will definitely still be around. I'll likely still be wearing them when that happens

Aida, I'm with you. I really want a great pair of wide leg, high rise jeans. I found one pair by Current/Elliott that is a strong contender, but they are $$$, so I'm biding my time.

I'm happy skinny jeans are sticking around too. I'm having a lot of fun with them right now.
