Ask Angie: should my future tall boots be taller? Plus WIW

While getting dressed for a very casual and windy, chilly Sunday, I am considering these old boots. They are at least 7 or 8 year old Cordanis and they're very comfortable, but I'm starting to consider something more sleek and polished in the future.

As I'm taking a critical look at these and my other tall boots (not many left since I've purged some old ones), I wonder, are these too short on my long calves? They are a 15" shaft, I've only just discovered (I had to look up the proper way of measuring shaft height!) -- I have never even thought to consider shaft height in boots before. Should I be looking at longer heights when I shop for a pair of tall boots?

Bonus casual WIW: Mossimo/Target quilted sweatshirt, Paige jeans, Converse/Target hooded vest, Cordani boots, tree/bird scarf from local boutique.

Personally I've decided that I prefer slightly shorter boots (not quite all the way up to my knees). They are definitely easier to fit, too, when they aren't so high.
That being said, a pair of tall knee boots that fit well can look very sleek and pretty, too.

I think the height of those looks fine and as Angie said, you could go a tad higher if you wanted. I like your outfit. The drape of your jacket and scarf colour/pattern are lovely details.

Okay, here is where my jealousy rears up! Seriously....those 15" high boots that are waaaaay below your knees would be halfway over my kneecap. I need 14" or lower. Sigh.....so many gorgeous boots now with a 16" or 17" high shaft.

These look great on you, and higher will also look good.

I was just thinking about this! I love my tall, tall Dorados so much they are making my black Campus look a little shortcakey. So with skirts I'm adding a black smartwool knee sock.

Oh good! Thanks, Angie and all for weighing in! It just occurred to me that these fit me so differently from how tall boots look on many of you. I'm glad to know I haven't been embarrassing myself over the better part of the last decade.

Suz, I hear you and sympathize. The flip side is that OTK boots really are middle of the knee boots for me.

I think the boots look great! That Target sweatshirt looks really nice too (looks expensive!) Is it recent?

I hear ya, Suz! I had a pair of boots that I thought I could give to my DD... until I realized that they were waaaay too tall for her short legs.
