Ask Angie: Sheer Tux Blouse - YouLookFab Forum

This is an Ask Everyone, Including Angie! I've been wanting a tuxedo blouse for a while now. Cotton ones (like the beautiful J Crew ones) are too stiff and stick out awkwardly over my chest. So, I figured silk may be the answer.

I bought this great tuxedo blouse recently. The fit is spot on. Classic. Gorgeous. HOWEVER, it is sheer. The picture pretty accurately shows the level of sheerness. I would have to wear a tank under it for work. Is it still work appropriate? Would that level of sheerness bother anyone? Looking for thoughts before I slap my return label on the envelope. (And I have to confess, I've had it ready to return for a few weeks, but it hasn't yet gone because I love it so much other than the possible sheerness issue.)

What say ye, forum?

A tank with a full shoulder - not a strappy shoulder - should be fine. Totally work appropriate to my eye. And you'll wear a jacket to client meetings anyway. (Pics below illustrate my point).

Thanks, Angie! I was wondering if that might be just the solution. I'm need to buy a wide shoulder tank anyhow, so now I'll just go on the hunt and try it with both white and beige and see which works.

BTW, they have this shirt in blush too. (I tried it, but it was too close to my skin color to work for me.)

I think if you got off white or cream you should good. Silk over stretchy stuff.

Chicos of all places has great layering tanks. The fabric from your top doesn't catch on them. Love them.

Good to know, JayS! I'm always on the lookout for a great layering tank. The stores seem to switch them out from season to season, so you never can count on them being in stock when you need them. I'll add Chicos to my list of sources.

Would it be possible to wear a nude cami with a shelf bra? Or would you still be able to see it through the shirt?

@Gigi, I think a nude cami is possible. In fact, I think that is the look that it has in the photo. That's also what I'm going to look for: a nude cami with wide straps (which will cover my bra staps--a shelf bra is a no go for me).
