Ask Angie: PPL for these jeans, and hack/hem/cuff?

Hi Angie and anyone else good with PPL!

What say you of these slim-straight jeans? I do enjoy a crop, but not sure what PPL would be to look modern as per today's blog post - or should I keep them long (which I feel look a bit boring but maybe not)? (annoyingly, the legs has a slight asymmetry in the length, a defect I did not notice at the time of purchase - but it's not noticeable until I try to cuff them and have to fuss to make them look even).

And - would you hack them and leave a raw edge, which I see more and more commonly? Or hem them? Or cuff them so that I can change them?

I have same struggle with my straight jeans. I cut one pair but got tired/bored of unfinished hem, plus it flares out ever so slightly - so I put a trim over it ( by hand, time consuming ) and like it better that way. Cuffed is still preferred style for me - and you have legs to work it out ( and cute boots to show off ). Hemming is a good option to even out length as well ( same problem with some of mine ), especially if you have a few pairs of straight leg jeans ( I have 4 - including one with a trim ).

What about wide cuff/ one turn of fabric only with visible edge of hem/? Like Kut from the Kloth Cameron Cuffed Straight-leg jeans. Sorry - no picture, still figuring how to do it . It’s on Macy’s website.

Second the wide cuff suggestion. That's my new thing these days. I haven't had great luck with hacking the straight legs--they tend to look "home made" or maybe it's my poor hacking skills. Getting the length just right is problematic for me too.

Straight legs are my new skinnies. I like mine at the ankle bone....no scrunch when they hit my footwear. I have both hemmed and raw hems. I have a strong dislike for cuffed jeans but that's my personal preference.

I've never had any problems doing my own raw hems or hemming using original hem technique but I'm a sewer.

I vote wide cuff or raw hem. I have both.

I never hem jeans anymore.

I have a similar dilemma with a pair of straight jeans. I almost gave them a raw edge a couple of weeks ago. In the end I am keeping them long....

I vote either keep them long or chop them - I am a bit off cuffs at the moment and like the long line of them without a cuff.

Whatever you decide the jeans are a great fit on you!!

I am not at all an expert on PPL, but can tell you *I* have been single-cuffing most of my straight jeans. I didn't hem them simply because I am non-committal and may want to change hem length for a taller heel shoe.... I like the look of a wide cuff, especially if I want to highlight my boot.

I have also chopped a couple of pairs of skinny and BF jeans for a raw hem; I shoot for around one or two finger widths above my ankle bone.

I'd leave them as is so you can vary how you wear them. They look nice - what are they?

Oh dear, I asked Angie a similar question back in February ... advice was 2 inches above the ankle, but possibly changeable by specific pair of jeans ... so Angie, do ignore if advice is same! Darn pant lengths! Why are they so hard?!?

Ha! Well, I am wearing a new pair from the Gap today too, despite my big statement about not needing anymore jeans this year . Eyeroll. I bought two pair of the new high-waisted Cigarette jeans and quite like them!

I have no idea what PPL is (there should really be a glossary on the landing page!), but I say make them a couple inches above the ankle either with a new hem OR a wide cuff. Maybe: try a wide cuff. If you like it, keep it. If not, chop to 1" above the ankle. If you like it, keep it. If not, hem up an inch?

I like both lengths! And I like having options, but then i struggle with ppl so Tammy comments with a grain of salt

I like them long and then you have the option to turn up one big cuff when you feel like it. They look great!

I addressed this exact question with a client today. Try ONE modern cuff. Like a turn-up.

Np! And I did a combination ... Hacked to even them out, and then one large cuff (photo shows large cuff, pre-hack). They are still long enough for me to hem at a cropped length if I ever want to.

Late to the party! I’m doing wide cuffs on my straight jeans, and a narrow roll on my skinnier ones. My (self) hacked jeans served me well, but have been retired due to backside wear and tear. My white jeans have raw hems, but one pair is like your jeans - long enough to cuff the hem wide (reveals raw hem) or narrow (raw hem becomes tucked into roll).

I still see lots of raw hemmed jeans in Street Style reports, but I’ve milked that trend for two years solid, and I’m ready to move on. I’m also feeling a desire to move away from jeans, but that’s just me.
