Ask Angie: PPL for Wearing With Chelsea Boots

My name is Ingunn and I've been thrifting again

Hi Angie & all,
When I returned the Armani suit I found a pair of Boss trousers in deep navy. They are high waisted and fit me really well (no whiskering etc). I've been wanting a pair of navy dress pants, so I jumped. But they are a bit long, so I need high heels to be able to wear them now.

My question:

I want to be able to wear them with my new Chelsea boots. They are about 1 1/2 inches (3,5 cm) tall. Can I hem the trousers the way I'm suggesting in the photos? It means reducing the length by about 1". Will I be able to wear them with higher heels with the suggested length, too? I know it's not quite PPL for that, but I need them to be versatile.

Any advice is very welcome.

Additional question: Are these trousers boot cuts or straight?

STUNNING trousers, Ingunn. I am jealous. What a great trade in for the Suit -- good thing you took it back. I eagerly await Angie's verdict on length. For myself, I fear you will simply have to make a choice. I like the length with the lower shoes as you have pinned it but not so much with the higher heel.

Gorgeous navy trousers Ingunn. These are going to serve you well. I suspect Suz is correct - you may need to pick a heel height and stick with that. Love the trousers with the Chelsea boots.

The trousers are bootcut. Gorgeous on you, Ingunn.

I am very pedantic about pant lengths. I like flared hems very long and would stick to a heel height - give or take half an inch - to wear with them. Other fashion stylists will be less fussy though. Me and lengths - it's my thing.

Thanks, Suz and Shannon, I think I scored on these! The fit is incredibly comfortable, and I can see myself wearing short, drapey sweaters with it. I have one on my needles right now, a twin to the yellow summer version in plum.

I'm thinking that you've given me my answer, but Angie will be the final judge, of course. I'm glad you liked the trousers with the Chelseas.

Angie, we double posted!! Hahaha! Thank you for chiming in, I think I knew what you would say Do you like them the way I've pinned them with the Chelsea boots, or should I go for higher heels?

I love #2 and #3, Ingunn. #4 looks a tad short.

Oh yes, that's what I thought you meant. If I'm going for higher heels than #2-3, I won't hem them at all. Thanks again!

Trouser envy! Great find.

PPL's are tough. I can wear 1.5-2" blocky heels but not every day, all year. So I had to commit and realize some trousers I won't wear on certain days. With my improved style focus (!), I'm getting more of a footwear focus so I can narrow down to 2 basic lengths! I used to buy shoe heel heights all over the map (though none high) and I had to make myself get much more picky as to where they fit into the pants picture, including the seasonal picture. Even then I have to live with perhaps being 1/2" off here or there, so I aim for too long rather than too short.

Those pants are worthy of truly PPL, and a bit of heel, so I'd pick the heel/footwear that fits your purpose with those pants best and get it just how you like it.

Fantastic! I think these are an excellent trade for the suit. Length looks really good in first pic. I'm extremely picky about lengths too. I feel totally wrong if my pants are too short, even by a little bit.

Thanks ladies! I guess I have to arrange a shoe audition to find out what shoes I REALLY will be wearing the most. These trusers are wonderful to wear, and I hope they will become workhorses in my work wardrobe.
