Ask Angie: Pencil Skirt Question

I wore this pencil skirt to work today, but It was too tight so I could not walk that easily. I finally just decide I could not take it anymore. I grabbed the side of the skirt and ripped a slit on both sides. It is an ankle leingth skirt. Is there a way to hem the slits I ripped into the skirt? Thanks. Vicki

Wow, if the skirt was so bad that you had to resort to tearing it apart, I would just ditch it and get a new one. Pencil skirts are more constricting than A line skirts, but they shouldn't cripple you. Get one that either has side slits or a vent in the back.

Oh I just noticed you mentioned it was an ankle length skirt. Pencil skirts are not ankle length, and the general consensus on YLF is that ankle skirts are super unflattering. Also, if it's a tight ankle skirt, then of course you couldn't walk. Your legs are basically being wrapped together! That sounds uncomfortable. I would not even bother repairing it. Unless there is a religious consideration, go get yourself a knee length skirt. If there is a religious consideration, try something flowier and less constraining.

I think this is what's called a "hobble skirt," and it does indeed limit your ability to walk. I'm with Maya -- ditch it and get something that doesn't restrain you.
