Ask Angie: Pants size for skinny girl

Angie,

Hi how are you! I just found your site today and I am hoping you might be willing to help me a little. I am a skinny girl with a very small waist and hips and I am having a hard time finding pants that fit well. I often end up buying girls sizes 14-16 although those can be a little short and it is hard to find something not casual at times.
My waist is 25.5 in, my hips are 30.5 in, and I am 5'7" tall (at 28 years old, after two kids, figure that!). None of the size charts I can find online have anything near this combination, it seems.
Any pointers in the right direction would be very much appreciated. Thank you so much in advance Angie!!!

Hi Dawn and welcome to YLF.

Have you tried size 000 at J.Crew? You have to order the size online. Try Bebe, Zara and H&M for bottoms. Premium denim is also available in a size 23 and 24.

Alternatively, you can purchase a size 0 and have the legs and side seams altered to fit your narrow hips.

Dawn, my DD has measurements very similar to yours and she is almost 5'9" at age 22. She finds that GAP boot cut jeans sz v24 or 25 fit the best. ( a little gap in the back, but she can usually take it in a little herself). She also has had great luck finding slacks in either a sz 0 or 2 at White House Black Market.

When I had lost a lot of weight due to health problems, I had similar measurements, and I found clothing at American Eagle and White House Black Market.

You could also check out Topshop at Nordstrom. I have bought some of their bottoms, and they run extremely small.

Try kids/tween stores. I know it sounds weird, but that's the perfect age where they're long legged, lanky, but still thinner in the legs and hips than adults or teens.

A friend of mine is even smaller than you, similar height, she buys all her jeans from Pumpkin Patch's Urban Angel. And they're surprisingly good quality and fit for her.

For non-jean pants you might try Express. They seem made for a straighter figure. You will probably need to take in the waist.
