Ask Angie: Over the knee boots for petites

Angie:

Since you are the boot expert, can you answer a question about boots and petites? I am 5'4" (so on the line of a "true" petite) and I am shopping for boots. I am a SAHM and love the MOTG formulas. As I looked at the formulas, I realized I didn't have over the knee boots for the leggings and jeggings look. I am worried that I will look like all boots if I go with the over the knee look. What do you think? Are there certain guidelines to adhere to, or should I avoid over the knee boots altogether?

Great question. I await Angie's response. I'm 5'0 so it's even more tricky for me. It's difficult enough finding knee-high boots that aren't too tall. I haven't even bothered trying on over-the-knee boots!

With that said, I imagine that a slouchy boot might work best, as you can slouch it down?

Unfortunately, I fear that the proportions just aren't going to look right on me. Unless I pair them with a short dress/skirt - mid-thigh. This has been very difficult for me to find, and I'm not sure I'm comfortable anymore with such lengths (even with opaque tights). Not enough to want to invest in a new pair of boots.

Then again, never say never... right?

Andrea, there are plenty of 5ft 2 lasses on this forum who have pulled off the look beautifully. (Maya, Cathy, Dawn).You should have no problem standing at 2 inches taller. It's a question of finding the right OTK boots - perhaps not as tall as what I would wear (at 5ft 6) and with a little heel. Taylor is your height so hopefully she will chime in.

Shiny, I popped one of my clients who stands at your height into OTK boots last year. Look for something refined with a little heel and possibly a little slouch. I have no doubt that you'll pull off the look. Start the search

Thank you for posting the question - I had the same one, but I'm between 5'2 and 5'3. I'm going to have to do a search so that I can see pictures of Maya, Cathy, and Dawn in the OTK boots because somehow I missed them.
