Ask Angie: or anyone K/R White Maxi Dress & denim jackets

The first question is should I keep the dress? I would wear nude panties not white as I have done here.

Please tell me which jacket looks best with the dress & if the vest looks OK too. All the jackets are K/R except the blazer & which one is best with the dress.

Pics 1 - 4 show the dress

Pics 5 & 6 are with dark wash denim blazer which I already own.

Pics 7-9 are with a denim vest which I also would like to know whether to keep or return. While I like this kind of vest in pics Angie has posted is it too biker with my tattoos? Is it too distressed? Can you even see the distressing or should I post a close up?

Pics 10 & 11 are AE cropped denim jacket

Pics 12 & 15 is almost the same look but this is a Levis cropped trucker. Which cropped denim do you like best in general, not just with the dress? I'm not worried that the Levis is slightly darker as I can wash it until it fades more? This or the AE in 10 & 11?

Pics 13 & 14 are of a longer Levis trucker

I'm quite new here so please tell me if I should split jacket & dress questions into separate posts to make it easier. Thanks:)

ETA: If the jackets look weird with the scarf I can add a red bag for color or third piece instead of scarf.

The dres is very pretty and looks lovely on you. I think you have the height to carry off a maxi dress. The blazer while nice doesn't work with the dress in my humble opinion. But the vest looks really good. It doesn't bother me that I can see your tattoo, is it a problem for you to show it? I like both crop jackets but favor the lighter wash, particularly with the dress. The longer jacket looks good but I really think the crop length is more versatile.

Thanks Deborah. I think I also like the cropped jackets the best. I just need to decide which one fits & sits better. I can always wash the darker one to fade more. I like my tattoos but I was wondering with a denim vest & tattoos do I look like a biker?

I forgot to ask does one need to be able to button a denim jacket or any jacket that isn't outerwear? I think I rarely wear them that way. Probably only if I'm caught out somewhere & am too cold not to. Whenever I buy one that buttons comfortably without pulling or feeling too tight it looks too big undone. It's just my proportions.

I think it is more important that a jacket fits at the shoulders than does up, as more often than not they are better suited to being left undone to create a nice elongated silhouette.
I agree with Deborah's summary too.

Cool Lyn that's good. Sometimes I think I'm doing something wrong buying something that doesn't do up, like I'm trying to squeeze into something that doesn't fit, but it fits better undone which is how it is worn. Occasionally I would wear a suit done up. When I next buy a suit I will deal with it then.

I just noticed I have fat at armpits. I have this in most sleeveless clothes & even when naked so it's not from an ill fitting bra or too tight dress. Is this something I should hide? Avoid sleeveless clothes?

Elle I can't do up my denim jackets! And you look way to feminine to look like a "biker" Your arms are gorgeous, don't even think about it:)

Now I've looked into fading & it doesn't happen quick enough without bleach & come to think of it my really old jeans haven't faded. I guess they have found a way to preserve indigo better these days. Bleach will probably weaken the jacket too much so now I have to look again. I found the same Levi's one online but it is faded unevenly in an unnatural looking way on the back. I could just keep the AE one I suppose but I prefer the Levi's. Nothing I've found looks like Angie's jacket though i wish I could get the same one.

Re 'armpit fat' - I used to be really self-conscious of mine - then it occurred to me that if the skin there wasn't kind of loose you couldn't actually move properly Think about what happens when you throw a ball or do up dog.

I like it dark but I guess faded is more summery & I think I will mostly wear it in summer.

Dress looks good, and I like it with the vest. I would be slightly worried about it being see-through though. Are you OK with how it looks in bright light? (Sometimes with thin white things, when there is a light behind you, you can see your entire body outline through the dress....)

I like both cropped jackets, and they both look like they fit well. I have and love that AE jacket, btw, although mine might be a lighter wash. I do prefer the lighter wash here but that is just personal preference. I can do up my denim jackets but they are tight - in any case, I usually wear them open or with only one middle button closed.

Diana It is fully lined but I will do a bright light check. I am wearing white panties because I couldn't be bothered changing for the photo but I would normally wear nude.

Although I admit I am partial to a mix length in general, I love this dress on you! It is pretty and feminine and flattering. It looks like you have just the right figure to pull of the horizontal tiers with aplomb. Kudos!

My favorites looks are:
1) the one with the best, scarf, and bag. Now that's an outfit. Especially softened in this way, I don't think you look like a biker chick AT ALL. Pulled together and pretty. In fact, I am stealing this look for one of my zillions of long skirts and dresses.
2) the one with the darker cropped jacket. I love how the length makes your legs look a thousand miles long - very willowy. I prefer the length of this jacket over both of the other two. To my untrained eye, it hits at just the right place.

The dress is beautiful.

Will you feel comfortable in it with how see-through it is? If you have to wear nude panties versus white ones, I personally would not wear the dress.

It is beautiful and flowing and feminine. It looks lovely on you. But none of that matters if it makes you self concious or if you won't wear it later because the fabric is too thin.

It is lined Thistle but I will have to check for see through. I don't want that.

I really like this dress, especially with the vest and the first cropped denim jacket. I don't think that the denim blazer is the best option with this dress, because it is quite structured compared to the flow of the full, maxi skirt. That said, if you're going for contrast then it might be just right!

the vest and teh cropped denim from 10-11...wonderful and great fit on the dress

So I checked in bright sun & even though it's lined it does show a sillouhette if I get backlit by a bright sun. If lining isn't enough to stop that then I doubt any white cotton dress will be any better. I guess I can't have one:(
