Ask Angie: Okala for high volume?

I have been drooling over the various Sam Edelman Okala pumps since the first incarnation showed up on YLF last year. I would love to add a pair to my spring/summer wardrobe. I know that many of you have found them very comfortable.

Angie - do you think these would work for a high volume foot such as mine and is the arch support relatively decent?

Unfortunately there is no local store that currently has them in stock for me to try on

Nothing at The Bay, Shannon? I tried on the Okalas there before ordering online. Hmm. My foot runs wide across the ball, and the Okalas just work.

Ack Jackie! Look what I just found on The Bay website? http://www.thebay.com/webapp/w.....ebay/okala. I don't know if they have them in the store but think I'll order off the website. I absolutely LOVE the black and ivory pattern. Easy return if they don't work.

My foot is slightly wide as well so good to hear they work for you.

The black and ivory would play well with your wardrobe, Shannon. I loved the Ocalas, but they didn't work for my fussy feet. The toe box was not as narrow as many pointed shoes, but I couldn't manage the three inch heel. I have low arches and a low volume foot. If your forefoot is "tall", the Ocalas may be challenging as I don't remember much room there. Perhaps others have had a different experience.

I hope they work. I think you would rock them.

They do actually come in W in the US.

Caro, Ann (Dashielle) and Joyce B have higher volume feet than me, and wear the Okalas. Might want to PM them for details if they don't comment here.

One who bought and wears them in Wide is Day Vies. They worked great for her.

Shannon, our feet are a similar shape, I think? Not super high volume but wide across the toe box, high arch, narrow heel? The Okalas work great for me. I do need to put moleskin on the right shoe, right side if I am going to walk for more than a mile because I get blisters in the humidity. But the fact that I DO wear them to walk more than a mile tells you something!

I would have more of these if I got enough opportunities to wear them. They are a little dressy for my regular life, alas. I really love them. And may but a second pair this year, regardless, especially if they come out with white or bone.

I have a high volume foot and the Okalas work for me. I'm wide across the forefoot and have a narrow heel and the regular work for me. I tried the wide width when I was in the States and it was actually too wide for me, which was surprising. They're also very soft, so stretch if you need them to give a little. Worth a try.

They worked fabulously for me, I am wide at the forefoot, narrow heels and really high arches. I was actually surprised by how well they worked.

Just to give another data point, I am also wide at the forefoot, narrow heels, and high arches, the shoe did not fit me at all. But I do have very short toes, that might be the reason.

Shannon, they were at the Bay at Polo last time I was there (recently) . I wish I could make those damn shoes work for me because I love them, but they just don't. Narrow heel, mini bunion on left foot, and the straight-across vamp of the shoe cut right across my foot at precisely the wrong place. They are also at Town Shoes in Polo Park too. Nine West has the same style. (and they didn't work on me either)

I got all excited reading the possibilities and rave reviews here and then catseye and lisap reminded me that these may indeed not work for my feet. With this style of shoe, it's all about where it cuts across the top/front.

Lisa - I haven't popped into Polo for a while now. I think I'll go and see if they are there. Even if they aren't the exact colorway, I'll know if the fit will work.

I don't need wide shoes as such but my feet are on the wider side just where the toes join the foot. I bought the animal print ones, the same as Angie's, which are fine for a few hours but not an all day shoe for me. I also bought the nude leather & these have stretched (they are soft leather) so they are much more comfortable than the animal print ones.

I've purged most of my heels because I just can't "do" them any more but the Okala's are very wearable.

I can't really do heels anymore either - except when they are very stable and no higher than 2 inches.

I guess I won't know unless I try them.

I bought the black/black ones in the wider width in the B&M Nordies, but have yet to see any online other than standard width. I hate talking about it (but if it helps, I will) but I have bunions on both feet and although the Okalas DO hit right across that joint, the wides are fine with my feet...and I road tested them shopping all day with Angie and crew at a meetup. Mind you, my feet are gonna hurt even if I'm wearing Crocs (which I wouldn't) for all day shopping. I say, try the ones you can order and you could have a cobbler stretch a tad to get you going. I bought my own stretchers to handle the inevitable issue I have with most shoes.
