Is a glen plaid the same as a micro check? There is a glen plaid pant in the Talbots catalog, but it is hard to see the details in the pic.

Here's the dictionary definition:
Glen plaid
Use glen plaid in a Sentence
–noun 1. a plaid pattern of muted colors or of black or gray and white, esp. one in which two dark and two light stripes alternate with four dark and four light stripes, both vertically and horizontally, forming a crossing pattern of irregular checks.
2. a fabric having such a pattern.
3. a garment made of such a fabric.

Glen Plaids can be done a two color combo (like in that picture, and what I think that micro check is), and also with other colors, which are a little different than the micro check.

They are not the same (similar but not the same). Glen plaid is still nice though.

I thought glen plaid is one kind of microcheck. And for example, houndstooth would be another.

I guess you could see it that way. I think of them as 3 patterns all with a similar effect.

Hmmm, this is how I learned this, back in textile class:

A microcheck is any woven check, plaid, or pattern that is small in scale. Can include glen plaid, windowpane plaid, Prince of Wales plaid, herringbone, houndstooth, etc.

Glen plaid, windowpane paid and POW plaid are the three most common kinds of plaid- they are very specific patterns, but can be large or small in scale.

So, a glen plaid can be a microcheck, but isn't always. (I was under the impression that the CM microchecks were a glen plaid, but I'll have to check to be sure!)
