Angie,
Is it still fashionable to wear sorter dresses with leggings and if so what should be the leggings length or is it completely outdated look now?
I know you said to wear dresses with cropped pants and jeans and I love the look but it may be too hot for summer when you want something breezier.
I have a pair of cropped leggings (7 in above the ankle) which are basic knit black leggings and I wonder if I can wear them with shorter dresses (like in the finds below) this summer...

How short should the dress be in relation to the leggings? I'm assuming there's a preferred formula to keep from looking frumpy.

I am considering these from Old Navy.
BC, I am thinking about leggings with dresses from mid-thigh to several inches above the knee: knee length dresses and longer do seem frumpy to me.

It would be interesting what Angie thinks...

I love leggings to have interesting details like that- both Angie's Find and the Old Navy ones you are looking at. Yes, I definitely prefer the dresses or tunics above the knee with them. If your dress is below the knee it is modest anyway, so why would you need leggings? Warmth??

I actually wear mine with some knee length dresses and like it so I'd say whatever floats your boat when you try things on.

I bought an extremely cute sweatshirt dress in the fall that I planned to wear with ankle length leggings and sneakers. But every time I put it on this winter, I took it right off again, and this explains why. It's just above/to the knee on me and the proportions looked wrong with the leggings in my eye. Hoping there will be some weather conditions this spring when I can wear it comfortably barelegged with sneakers, because I love the dress itself.

I got these ON laced leggings today and I LOVE them! They are not very thick but it is a good thing for summer. I think I am going to duplicate them so they last longer in good shape.
Angie, I liked them better that Hue leggings you posted above - somehow the diamond pattern of laces looks more flattering to my eye than straight lines of the Hue leggings.
I had to size up in them compared to Hue sizing.
BC and jlpp, I tried these leggings with over the knee dress (see finds) and liked the look a lot - I guess never say never! I think it does depend on the particular leggings and dress...
Jenni, just think of legging like accessory and not "something I need to wear under this dress because it is too short" but yes, shorter dresses are easier to wear with them proportions wise.
I also bought these more cropped lace trim leggings from Hue. They are a bit thicker( but still summer-friendly cotton) so better for not too hot summer days.
I also ordered these cropped flare leggings. I like the idea pf flares with dresses but jeans are too hot for summer and also waistband and zipper show under a think dress fabric. These are pull on like leggings so nothing to distort the lines.
Hmmm, looks like I am on a dress / leggings kick this summer...now I need to get more SHORTER dresses!

So glad you found such amazing leggings, Sveta. I want them too!-) And flared leggings: brilliant! I think I NEED a pair as well...

I still love the look of dress/longer tunic over leggings very much (and as you know wore them with my gingham dress recently;-) and can't wait to see all your outfit combinations.

I swear we have group think on this forum! I ordered two new tunic/dresses just yesterday from zappos, and I love the look. I have several pairs of nice leggings/pants (formfitting but very sturdy fabric) plus several thinner pairs that are more like footless tights but a bit more opaque. Love both but different looks. My outfit for the day is leggings and little black with leaf print dress and I can't wait for the zappos package. Let's see if I can figure out finds. I've collected several cropped pants and now i have to have those cropped flared leggings. Buying now.

here are the dresses I ordered yesterday, with the express purpose of wearing with leggings. I have quite a few dresses I collected last year, from boho to quite structured, purchased for the same purpose.

and I still can't figure out how to make a find...

I love wearing tunic/dresses and leggings too and a good way to extend the wear of dresses in Canada too. I saw the ON you posted and ordered right away. So thank you! They only had a size up, so I got them hoping they wouldn't be too big, but from your review, looks like that was lucky! Funny, I also bought the lace Hue ones on the weekend and looked at the cropped flared ones -think I will pick those up too!
