I just received this Nic and Zoe skirt from Nordstrom and I like the style and color but need to know from you all how the fit looks. It is made of a cotton twill and is just a casual a-line skirt but I thought it would be handy for summer. My question is whether it is fitting correctly. I have tried to include some sample ways I would style it for summer and also a bonus shot of our living area and furbaby Reilly, as DH was gracious enough to actually wield the camera.

I'm not a lover of A-line skirts myself, Meredith, but I have to say I do love the skirt with the Lands End striped sweaters. #7 is particularly fab! As far as fit goes, it seems to be fitting you very well.

At first I wasn't sure, but I LOVE how you've styled it in 5-7 and 10. Not sure why but 8/9 aren't working as well for me.

You know, I don't do skirts too much so I am not sure if A-line is the perfect shape for me. So it part of the reason I am soliciting opinions.

@Christyg,
I think this casual a-line shape works better with the casual striped boatnecks and casual denim jacket because of the shape casual feel of the skirt. Maybe that is why it doesn't work for you with the leopard or more blouselike tops or blazer.

Meredith I struggle to style Aline skirts but this looks really good on you. I am with Christy with 5/7/10 being my favorites here. I think the Aline lends itself to to dressy casual look and you have mailed it. The fit of the skirt looks good and I love the color color for you.

I think an A-line skirt is the BEST shape for an hourglass/pear and this one is lovely on you! I admire your stamina for taking all those pics at once, and everything I see works well.

It is a pretty color isn't it? I realized I didn't really have anything in red and I thought this looked pretty versatile, at least with my type of wardrobe. I'm glad you like it in the various ways!

I haven't worn skirts in so long that they always are just a little hard to get used to! I do think I will like this one though. I'm please you think the looks all worked well.

You look wonderful in that skirt, Meredith! So many great pics you have taken and they *all* work for me. You have made quite some steps into new water lateley and I think this red skirt is one of them. Nice to have some bold colour with your neutrals. Now it's time to walk your lovely dog in a red skirt!

i think it makes you look wider than you are if you are tucking. when worn with untucked tops, it's ok. not sure it's a 10. just me.

I struggle with A-lines, too - they are somehow "in between" fuller skirts and pencils. But when you pair this with the denim jacket, it looks great. And it occurs to me that Claire often wears her A-lines this way, too. You might look through her old posts for styling ideas. That color will work great with your wardrobe.

Thanks so much! BTW, I received the Halogen denim pencil skirt which I was so eagerly waiting for and it did NOT work out at all. I hated the cut.

I believe it should soften as you say. I was wrong when I said it was cotton twill in the description. It is cotton and spandex. I am glad I chose a distinctive color too as I have very few colorful bottoms of any sort.

I don't love it tucked either but I am normally NOT a tucker anyway. I hope that it will soften a tad which will help it drape more. I may even consider getting it tapered.

Good point about how Claire wears them. I will definitely look at more of her posts. I tend to gravitate towards her style for myself anyway.

Another vote to keep. I like all the ways that you have styled the skirt and especially like it with stripes and the white jacket.
Furbaby Reilly is a sweetheart and poses so well.

Thank you so much! I was really trying to pick a skirt that would go with things that I already have but wouldn't be too neutral. I didn't have anything in the closet at all in red except for my faux leather moto jacket so I figured since I haven't found any red trousers, I would go for a red skirt. I should start playing around to see how it will work for fall/winter.

Great looks, and this will pair well with lots of neutrals, including more layers and boots, into fall. The red looks fab on you. The fit is perfect and so is the length. And yes, keep the skirt - it's beautiful, and the shade of red is perfection.

You may be right about it being more of a straight skirt. The one you linked to is definitely more wide at the bottom than this one! I do hope to layer with sweaters and jackets and boots in the fall.

Thanks Jonesy! I prefer it untucked myself, but DO wish the tops were slightly shorter.

Yes! Reilly is waving to Kona! I'm really glad you like it and I did have a choice between a royal blue and the red and decided red would actually work better for me. I wonder if it would be too much duplication to get the cobalt blue also?

I've discovered the joys of duplication if you know you're going to wear something often, so if that's the case, then yes,duplicate!

I see cobalt blue and red as (weirdly) interchangeable in certain outfits.

Yep. I think they interchange well in some cases although I am going to evaluate whether the blue will actually "do" anything for my tops.existing I have always done the duplication thing in the past but am consciously trying to do it only when it will really work!
