Ask Angie: K/R: Bailey 44 midi dress

Hi Angie & others. I haven't styled this & styling tips are welcome too. Are bodycon dresses on the way out? I watched WNTW tonight & Stacy & Clinton are always getting people to define the waist & wear tighter clothes. They do end up looking better than they did before but that doesn't mean that oversized can't look good when done right as I'm learning here. There were many reasons those people needed help.

I'm not even sure what persona this dress is or if it is me. I've started a pinterest of what I like to determine my persona but it's just started so not everything I like, just repins from a few pages so not varied yet. I was happy to find a dress that was neither mini or maxi. That is not easy.

Is my tummy a problem?
Does it suit me?
Should I keep it?
When can I wear it & how?

Do you need me to take pics with leather moto & shoes/booties & bags?

I think overall it's a great dress, however I can see why you ask about your tummy (I think you and I have very similar body shapes). For me, the join in the "bandages" is right at the widest part of your tummy, so I would be self conscious in it - almost like arrows pointing towards your tummy. I'd also wear a shorter version with flats as a staple (casual) summer dress, but I think the longer version is dressier, so it would depend on your lifestyle as to how much wear you got out of it.

I'd like to see you in a few other variations of this dress for comparison.

Gorgeous dress! I'm not sure of your style goals, but I think this could be a great dress in a lot of situations. Definitely no tummy problems to speak of, unless super flat is a problem, lol!

Thanks everyone. I willl take Angie's advice about starting a thread for styling & where I could wear it. You are all very kind. I hope you're being honest & not just diplomatically honest about my tummy because yesterday was a good day for my tummy. I was at my slimmest & flattest & it still stuck out as far as my boobs. I guess I can only wear it on those days, not my bloated days unless it is possible to wear shape wear under something like this? I'm worried that it will show.

Elle -- it is a perfectly normal and lovely shaped tummy. That curve is one of the loveliest areas on a woman to my eye, and I really hope you don't feel uncomfortable with how you look. I think the dres looks great on you.

Shannon thanks for your comments. I would never have tried this on if it weren't for you. I was shopping for a belt & saw this on the rack. The black & cream grabbed my eye. I saw how fitted it was & thought no but then I saw the label & remembered how stunning yours looks on you. Tired as I was I thought I need another dress for Summer I'll just try it on. I still almost didn't buy it. But thought I should ask you ladies.

When can I wear it & how? any time -- work, errands, going out. you can dress up or down, depending on toppers and shoes. I have a Bailey 44 dress and a copycat and to lessen the body con aspect I'll wear a loose topper over it (blazer, long vest, denim jacket, moto jacket, etc).

This looks fabulous on you - I don't see any belly issues. I'm self-conscious about that area myself, and I have a version of this dress - I find the tiers very forgiving.

Tummy bigger today! Still ok? Shapewear needed? Please be honest:) I'm not sticking it out (which is what people say when I show them). It is how I stand, I have a sway back. If I was pregnant I wouldn't mind but I'm not & I have been asked several times before.

Also 2 old pointy shoes, that hubby hates, & ex boyfriend too so maybe it's a guy thing. Are they dated or do they fit with the new pointy styles? I think maybe the slingback is dated, ankle straps are more on trend. To be honest I think I would like to find some that are less elongated but if these are on trend why spend more money?

I like the shoes, too. Yeah, I'm glad I didn't get rid of every pair of pointy toes I had.

What happens if you add a necklace or another accessory to draw your eye up, rather than allowing people to even consider your tummy? I have shapewear that starts just above my knees (like leggings) and finishes at my bra-line. Something like that should be fairly well hidden underneath. I do think the dress looks great, but it also appears that you feel uncomfortable/self conscious about it. I think in this case, it isn't about how great you look, but about how great you feel. How do YOU feel when you wear it?
