Pouring rain and lightning here so dangerous conditions both for being out, and for being at home and web shopping.

Anyway, as some of you recall, I found this Lafayette 148 jacket recently and realized how versatile it was:

It's still not the season for wearing it here, but I've also not warmed up to it in some ways (no pun intended). In theory it's a great jacket, but the material and its horizontal stripiness is bugging me a little. I have to admit, the price is weighing on me too. Though if I were madly in love, I would let that go.

I just found another similar jacket here, and am wondering what Angie and you all think:

Would this look really good on me? Maybe the color is too harsh? And might not be as versatile, or as transitional with the seasons as a more earth-toned jacket would be. It's less pricey and, to my eye, more luxe-looking than the Lafayette jacket.

Would you all approve if I were to trade in? I am seriously worried about getting spanked here. Also I am not sure myself, obviously.

Mochi, the only way to know is to try it. I really like the colors of the first jacket on you. This one could work well too in a different capsule that goes with back and white.

I adore the Lafayette on you. You could try the second one, but my guess is that it won't live up to the first one's fabness. But if you won't wear the first one, then no point in keeping it. And there is no harm in trying the second one for comparison.

For sure try it. The first one is nice, but it is a little pricy. A jacket would have to be a 12 out of 10 for me to spend that much . Only keep the first one if you absolutely love it and just can't wait to wear it.

Thanks, anna. When you and Suz and others speak, it is worth listening to. I don't know why (and it's not just the price) I'm not over the moon about the Lafayette. It still seems a bit fuddy duddy to me. Like if a few minor things were tweaked, it would be rock and roll but it's kind of ladies who lunch.

Well if I can subversive preppy you can subvert the ladies who lunch. Classics are all in the styling.

The Lafayette looks great on you. BUT, I vote return while you can. It doesn't matter how good something looks on you or how useful it is if you fundamentally don't like it ... and it sounds like you don't. The fabric bugs you. The stripes bug you. The ladies who lunch aspect bugs you. Why work to love it when there are so many other nice things out there?

I would try the other jacket but not return the Lafayette yet. Compare them side by side. I like them both.

I can relate to where you are coming from with this jacket, Mochi, because I've been in a similar quandary when I've brought home similar jackets. The fit and color can be perfect but I just can't warm up to the classic, lady-like style, no matter how I try to subvert its "ladies who lunch" vibe.

We've talked a lot on the forum about how what we wear ought to be an extension of our personality, so I've come to the conclusion that some styles just don't click with us. If you and that jacket don't get each other, then I'd send it back and look for something that felt right.

The second jacket looks less fashionable and rich to my eye than the original Lafayette. But that could change once it's on your body.

Yep, Janet and Angie's suggestions ring true. I have thought about the jacket and looked online a lot last night and this morning. I can always hold onto it for now. I am really unsure about it, unlike the other items hanging in my closet now. I think it was meant to be a sign that this *type* of classic item can work great for me, but that there probably is a better one out there. This is my chance to practice PPP. Thank goodness for Nordstrom return policies.

It doesn't matter how much we like it. If you're not 100% sure, return! Maybe wait till its season has really arrived and see if the outfits you create around it make you fall in love. If not, be glad you shop Nordstroms and take it back.
