Ask Angie: is this jacket too short for me?

I have one black wool blazer I thrifted a couple of years ago. It is a great fine wool fabrication and while it was not with tags it feel it was not worn really. I like the scrunched sleeves and fold details on the pockets and it fits me well in the bust and shoulders.
However I have a doubts now that it may be too short for me. Not like cropped length but actually short, when it's waistline sits higher than my actual waist for about 1.5-2".
I have attached pictures when it is buttoned up - front and back. The sleeves are 3/4 with scrunch built into them so they are not an issue. See where the lower button is - it is actually above my natural waist.
Is it passable or too short?

I am not Angie but thought I would comment and bump.

You have amazingly long legs Sveta so the pants make the jacket appear shorter. I would like to see the jacket with a knee length skirt. I think that may make a huge difference in how it looks. I also think it would be great unbuttoned. It would give shape without the button highlighting where the waist of the jacket is compared to the natural waist. A well constructed black jacket is always a work horse so if you have one that works even with a portion of your wardrobe, it is worth the space in the closet.

How does it feel to you? Do you feel yourself always uncomfortable? Or does the look of it bother your eye?

I would say in this case, because the shoulder fit is good, that would be an important question.

It works in a "shrunken jacket" way, Sveta. That is a fashion look too.

But you are LONG overdue for some longer blazers

I will add that I have a jacket I feel similarly about. I think yours actually works a lot better than mine, possibly because it is plain black.

Mine FITS (though admittedly it is on the snug side.) And it is clearly meant to be "shrunken" looking (as yours appears to be, as well). But sometimes I think maybe my eye is just tired of that look.

Having said that, I have a different shrunken jacket with a slightly different (straighter) cut that doesn't bother me in the least!

So who knows. Maybe it is a matter of our whims.

I think the jacket would look well styled a bit differently. The little inverted V is clearly meant to be there, but with stripes and a belt buckle filling the gap, it draws a lot of attention to your navel. Not that there's anything wrong with your navel, you understand... ;o)

I would like to see it styled as Dianthus suggests.

I was worried when I read the title of your post, but after looking at the photos, I think the jacket works. I agree with others, that this may not be the best combination for the jacket though. Maybe you could try it with a skirt or dress, which I think generally look better with shorter jackets.

I think it's a little bit short for you. your hip is kinda wide so the blazer should be longer to cover it

Thank you for he comments. I never wear it closed, I just buttoned it up to show you the fit. This is how it looks unbuttoned in the same outfit:
It feels comfortable enough, I just was afraid it looks too short and not intentionally cropped.
Angie, I know. The problem is that every time I try on a longer jacket in stores it feels too drab to me. Any pointers where I can find fab longer jackets?

Maybe at BR if they are starting to carry talls? Not sure what you are after but they generally have a decent selection of regular sized jackets. Not like Nordstroms or anything, but hey they have free shipping and returns, and no duties.

It is interesting, Sveta. I have trouble with longer jackets, too. Obviously our body types are very different (you are tall with long legs. I am shorter with shorter legs) but perhaps our top to bottom proportions are not so different. On me I always think a longer jacket looks somehow...frumpy. Even though I like the look on others.

Sveta, I found a longer blazer that I really love at RW&Co. Do you have one of those where you live? It was the first blazer that I bought and one of my favorites.
