Ask Angie: is this how these jeans should fit?

JCrew white Reid jeans have arrived and I am not sure if they are the right fit. They feel the same way my Madewell jeans fit (except that Madewell are a bit roomier in the waist - these Reid jeans are a perfect fit in the waist). However they do look tighter to my eye because they are white!
I am looking for an advice: should I try size up or is this the correct size - or maybe this is not the right cut for me altogether?
Thanks in advance - it has been a week since I got them and I cannot decide. My hopes for YLF wisdom are very high now!

I can't answer about the exact jeans as I don't own any J Crew items. A perfect fit in the waist is a plus!! And they look good and no sagginess on the bottom.

But if you are sitting on the fence then this to me shows that they are not right. I tend to KNOW when I love a piece, rather than need to be convinced.

They look good but I think you can do much better. Something about the front view is not 100% to me but I cannot explain it better.

I agree with Joyce - they look like they are pulling across the front in the fly area. It might be just the way they look, but it does appear that they are a little snug.

As much as many of the forum members love white jeans, I find they often aren't the most flattering things going - and I think it's purely because of the colour magnifying everything and making jeans look tight when they may not be. Just a personal thought...

Agree these don't seem to be "the one". I agree about the pulling, so they may be cut just a tad too straight, but overall I'm basing it on a lot of other pants outfits you've posted that just look really good on you, so I think it's just the cut of these is not quite up to your fit.

Angie, they are Tall so length is good. So you are not bothering with the wiskering in the front and don't think I should try to size up? That would be quite a relief if I do not have to order another size or go back to the hunt again

Sveta- is the rise comfortable? I sometimes find that pants don't lay the way I like due to the rise feeling a bit short. This may not be your issue if the pants are talls.

They look great on you. Part of it is how you want them to fit. You wear them well!

I love the length and since Angie has spoken, I will admit that I would have said these seem to fit but not as well as your other jeans to my eye. She has seen you and these pants in person so pay me no mind!

I think they look amazing on you. And Sveta, your body type has really changed since a few years ago. You used to be and hourglass / pear now you are an hourglass / IT. No pear at all, but then maybe you never were a pear you just thought you were.

I like them too Sveta and they appear to fit you well. Perhaps part of it is the fact that you often wear a looser fit pant and these may be an adjustment for you. You wouldn't want them to shrink though, so I'd avoid hot water or the dryer with them. Jeans usually 'give' a little over time, so they should feel even more comfortable with wear.

They look really good on you Sveta - if they feel good and you're only concerned due to the wrinkling, I'd say keep because pretty much all white jeans seem to have more obvious wrinkling. If the wrinkling is feeling weird or bunchy, that's a different story. I kind of wish I had sized down on my BR cream jeans because they feel a little too roomy. Even so, they still have some obvious wrinkling.

Yes, that front whiskering will relax some, and it always shows up a bit more with white jeans, I think. My Kuts do a similar thing and it is not about the rise length at all -- it shows up more in photos than IRL.

I think they look good Sveta. It IS a different silhouette than we typiclaly see you in, so there is some adjusting maybe. You might want to wear them for a half hour or so to see if they relax/stretch. then post another pic

Angie, these don't look perfect to me at all. I would have said pass for what looks like that wrinkly bagginess on the legs, and advise Sveta to keep looking in a thicker fabric. I would love to know what makes these look so good to your eye.

Sveta, I hope you don't mind me asking. I always think of you as elegant and statuesque, and I am sure you will rock these jeans IRL.

I think they look great. White is tough...too snug is so much more obvious than darker colors, but too much stretch/bagginess feels sloppy with white so quickly!

Angie, they are comfortable and already stretched a bit compared to out of the bag. The fabric is not as thick as in BR cream skinnies but approximately the same weight as my Madewell skinnies.
Una, it is funny that you say that - it was my first thought when I saw the pictures too. By measurements the circumference of my shoulders and hips is the same but shoulders are a bit wider across now than the hips. Interestingly the ratio of hips / waist did not change at all - I lost the same number of inches in both
IK, thank you - of course I don't mind. Fitting jeans and pants in general is such a pain for me that I will be glad to hear the pro particulars. I think one of the reasons why it is hard for me to decide if this is a good fit or not is because I am so used to a fluid fit ( to Elizabeth P point) it is hard for me to assess the skinny fit anymore.

I would love if Angie can chime in with an answer for IK question or I amy even start a new thread for this...curious!:-)

The first thing I thought when I clicked on the pictures, and before I read any of the comments, was "This is how I like my jeans to fit." Since the website describes these as a "slim, straight fit" and the jeans are made of stretch cotton, I think this is the way they're supposed to fit. Since they're white, you'll be able to see every wrinkle and line. That's OK! Since they're a perfect fit in the waist, and the length is perfect, I would keep and wear immediately!

I recently read something that was so smart! (I WISH I could remember where so I could link it here) - that you will never love something as much as when you buy it. So if you don't love it now, I think you should sleep on it, or keep looking.

But let me just underline this point: Sveta in her White Jeans = AMAZING
