Ask Angie: Is it safe to make navy my new black - or does it's trendiness put it at risk of bec

Hi there, I've gotten really into navy in the last few years and it's so much more flattering on me than black, and I know you've been a big navy fan too. However, because it's been so popular for the last few years, I'm almost afraid to replace all my black with it - is it still in "classic" territory, or with it being so popular now, do you think it will be passe in a year or two?

I think it's definitely a classic. It's basically a neutral, so you can't go wrong! We'll see what Angie thinks!

100% with, Raisin. Yes! Make navy your black. I have clients who have switched to navy and have not looked back. It's a classic that has become fashionable

LOVE navy & ink & it looks so much better on me than black. I'm trying to replace my black too, the only worry I have is that it won't be available in the way black is always available.

LOVE navy and ink blue, too, and would dearly love to replace all my black with it, but since that seems impossible (the black is always creeping in) I do happily wear them together.

18 months ago, when I ditched my entire wardrobe, I replaced black with navy in my new one. I think that it will forever be a core neutral. Often, when one reads about a couple of core colors to build a wardrobe around, navy is always mentioned ( along with gray, black , off-white ). I think that navy is a forever.

Navy is as classic as black so you should be safe.

Thanks everyone for the feedback - wonderful to know all you stylish ladies are into navy as well. Perhaps it's my years of Catholic school uniform that had scared me off it slightly - I've been a black-lover for many, many years but as I approach forty, I can't get around the fact that black just doesn't look as fresh as it once did. I've been experimenting with color to try to solve, but I'm a neutrals girl and loved my primarily black, white, and denim closet - now that I can just tweak it to it navy/ink blue, white and denim, think the problem's solved. Hooray!!

Navy is definitely a classic, and always will be. The only possible glitch I can think of would be wearing two navy pieces together. I've found a lot of color variation within navy, more so than black. If that wouldn't be a problem, then I think you should go for it.
