Ask Angie: how long will the sleeve trend last?

Hi, Angie:
Wondering if you have any thoughts on how long the bell sleeve trend will hang around? I know trends stick around a lot longer than they used to, and really it's anything goes now -- which is great!-- but the sleeve trends seem to be so strong this summer it seems as though it might burn out. I've got my eye on this top from WHBM, and I'm loving it because it's relatively unfussy (I prefer modern classic looks) and just cute as heck. I haven't tried it on yet, not sure whether it will be too short for me (i have a DD chest and am very short-waisted, so prefer longer tops generally).

Anyway, any thoughts are appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Not Angie, but that top is sure cute, love the gingham pattern. I like that it's 3/4 sleeve too! I hope the trend stays around awhile. I bought a really pretty bell sleeve top from BR and only wore it twice and now it seems to warm to wear it until fall.

What Carole says. I consider a trend over if it is in every shop window and every other female is wearing it. It is especially done if it reaches Walmart, but if you love it and it looks great on you, you should wear it anyway. I think gingham never really goes out of style. It is especially around every spring/summer just as tartan versions of plaid show up every fall.

I don't think this particular top will date very quickly. It's pretty moderate, as far as bell sleeves go. Super cute in the gingham, too.

I don't think this top will date quickly. It's not an extreme version of the bell sleeve trend. I love the gingham. It looks fairly short from the picture but is definitely worth trying on.

Really cute and not exaggerated, so I feel it will serve you well. And, if the style fades, the sleeves could be shortened to remove the bell or sleeves all together!

I dance flamenco, and I've been noticing ruffled and bell sleeves since 2011, when 'flamenco' was a noted style trend. That's six year years strong now, so I think this look has some longevity.

The top you're showing doesn't look, to me, like a top that would 'date', because you can always style it into a retro look. I feel like retro isn't going anywhere until we're all in sci-fi spacesuits.
