Ask Angie: Help needed...funeral clothes.

Hi Angie,
Sad times for my family. My father is in hospice and the doctor's have given him a couple of weeks to live. My heart is broken but we have had him for 96 years and I know it is time. The funeral is in the south and I want to wear a black dress but can't find anything suitable. I have an hourglass curvy body type and right now am more in the size 16 (bottom) and 12-14 (top) range.
Can you help me? I never go wrong with your advice.

PS. I was going to go with Editor pants and a black jacket but I am afraid that the pants being a 14 won't work right now. I am more a 16 at the moment.

I am so very sorry. It is always so very hard to lose a loved one.

It flares, so your different size bottom than top won't matter. The flare will also make it cooler for the south. It comes in black, and it looks like the black is actually on sale. I would top it with a black cardi or shrug.

Great idea, Thistle. I was just going to suggest Talbots, as their clothes come in a variety of styles that accommodate different shapes and taste. Also, they try to be helpful via phone if needed last I knew.

Marty, that is a great dress Thistle has picked out. I have a dress in a similar style and wore it a lot last summer, so you'll find it versatile for other uses too, and you can add cardigans etc to vary the look.

Sorry that I was unable to attend to your question yesterday. But Thistle's suggestion is lovely. Add a cropped cardigan if you need to cover up.

I bought the Talbots dress with the shrug. (Thank you, Thistle)

It was suggested that I wear a basic strand of pearls and small earrings and a small gold watch with off black hose and a small, black comfortable heel.

Yes, that sounds good. But no need for the accessories if you do not already own the, I would say.

I would wear any accessories you have, are comfortable, and you won't fidget with (maybe it's just me that fidgets!). Pearls would make the dress look very traditional southern. Not sure if you are going for that or not.

The dress and shrug sound lovely and I concur with Suz, look in your closet to see what is you if accessories are needed.
