Ask Angie: help me style this for my sister's evening wedding

Angie, your suggestions in the other thread led me to this Alice+Olivia top that I love. I can even see myself wearing it in the future and being happy it is in my closet.

The pics aren't great, and I wasn't able to zip the zipper all the way up in the back (a contortion issue, not a sizing one). I'm wearing it with my AG skinny jeans to simulate whatever slim black trousers I find to wear to the wedding. I'm adding the find to help with the visual. Ignore the shoes because I know they don't go, they're the shoes I'm wearing with my actual outfit today and I'm lazy LOL

I need inspiration and ideas about what sort of shoes and bag and jewelry to do with this outfit for my sister's evening wedding. I've got a bigger than usual paycheck coming in a couple of weeks, so I'll be able to start stalking my fave websites, watching sales, and planning a trip to Dallas proper for consignment shops and all of the good off-price (&full price) stores. But I need ideas, direction. My sister's groom-to-be is wearing jeans and cowboy boots to the wedding, but mom and I agree that we want me to still dress semi-formal to honor my sister on this wonderfully happy occasion, so please help me look like I know what I'm doing when I get dressed

Final note: I'll be taking the top to a tailor to make sure a professional can insure proper fit, but if you see anything that needs to be tweaked then please say so

Lovely and sophisticated! I don't see anything that is glaring about the fit; it looks good but the pics aren't the best (I know how hard that can be esp. with black)

If you will be wearing black trousers, my mind goes to a black pointed toe, low vamp stiletto, like the one in the "find" but maybe that's too predictable? Do you need to stick to flats or block heels (for dancing or standing on lawns)? Would that be too dressy? You could also do a strappy sandal.

For a bag, I'd find a large, dressy clutch, maybe in patent or some kind of texture that contrasts with the lace, like maybe a metallic suede. If it were me, I'd stick to neutrals for accessories, but you'll have to judge that.

Jewelry depends on what you decide for you bag, IMO...if you go with metallic accessories then maybe do the same for the jewelry. If you go with something more solid for the accessories then maybe pearls - white or black - for the jewelry? It's sort of chicken/egg. I think find one item that is perfect - shoes or bag or jewelry - and then let the rest of the items work with it. My only guiding principle would be make sure you have a texture that works with the lace (no other lace items, for example) and I personally would stick to neutrals.

Oh, that's a beautiful piece. I could see wearing that again in the future for sure. Are you having the shoulders taken up a bit? It looks a little long in the top on you, but that's easily fixed. (I have to have that alteration done all the time! My short little torso...).

I agree with Jenava about accessorizing. If you find the perfect shoe/bag, the other choices will be clearer.

Jenava, it will be indoors, so stilettos would be fine. I am almost positive that I won't be doing any dancing, and probably not a lot of standing, so we can be ridiculous with heel height if we want. I used to wear high heels all the time, and actually find better arch support in most heels because of my freakishly high arches. The trick is finding something that doesn't leave the balls of my feet sore. But a nice black pump would be nice, because it would be versatile in the future.

And Janet, I'm probably going to have to have the straps on the inner cami adjusted because those are definitely too long. My pink bra was definitely peeking out in front, which was not a good look LOL. And yeah, I can see styling this a little but "rock star in Paris" with my leather leggings or faux-suede ones with the slits in the knees, and my black stiletto heel ankle booties; or even with the AG jeans and some black flats. So I've definitely got some more casual styling ideas brewing, but my sister might not appreciate leather pants at her wedding LOL

Ooh, that's a great choice! The lace is spectacular and the sheer-column-over-skinny-pants look is just edgy enough to express yourself. I would be inclined to style it as much like the model in the find as possible: black pumps, black skinnies, very chic. And then I'd look for a lightweight silky shawl in the same deep blue as the lace (IS yours blue like the find? It's hard to see in the photo.) and maybe a dressy clutch bag. Deep blue satin would be gorgeous.

Thank you, JAileen. Between Angie's suggestions leading me to finding the top, and learning that the groom will be in jeans and cowboy boots, I'm definitely breathing easier.

Tulle, yes, mine is blue just like the find. When Angie said navy blue and black I knew right then I had to do it. It's one of my favorite color combinations! And I do like how, even though it is lace, it could be styled edgy casual in the future!

OK, I found this, just as an idea. Is it too edgy? It's a navy metallic leather clutch. Man, there are some AMAZING clutches out there right now. I saved a few casual ones for my own mulling over.

Not sure what style you're going for, but if it were me, I'd start with the bag. Black pumps should be easy, and jewelry could be simple, but the bag...the bag you'll want to find something you can reuse that also adds a bit of panache.

Lyn, I don't have the pants yet, but I'm not too worried about that. Pants are beastly for me anyway, because I have to buy to fit my butt and then have a tailor take the waist in.

YAY. (Ink lace is very close to my heart). The outfit is going to look sublime, once we've finished with it, Cindy.

Now that you've got the show piece, you can get a simple pair of stretchy black crops that are on sale to wear with them - like the BR sloans.

You need a beautiful black bra. Get that first, and then have the dress altered to fit perfectly.

I vote silver shoes and silver clutch to go with your hair. Breaks up the dark palette. Personally, I prefer closed toe shoes.

Edgy silver cuff and ring to complement the daintiness of the pretty lace.

Some type of wrap, shawl, or tuxedo jacket for a/c.

Remember to have your hair and make-up professionally done too, Make the appointments!

For visual colour inspiration - my birthday outfit from last year. Ink lace, silver and a black topper. Of course, I threw in pearls because that's who I am. But you should do edgy silver jewellery as a nod to the tattoo that you are covering up.

Angie, I love the idea of silver accents! They count as a neutral in my book, so they could be used again in the future. I also like that the metallic just feels more party like, festive--it's my baby sister's wedding.

I'll definitely check into the cropped pants; and start looking for shoes & accessories.

Sarah, I just ordered that silver clutch you just sent the link to. I've been scouring the internet and haven't really seen anything that said "buy me now" because it all looked like I'd have to hold it like a wallet. This has a handle! Handles are as important as pockets!
