Ask Angie: harem pants for Fall/Winter?

I just bought a couple pairs of harem pants. They are unbelievably comfortable.

Can these be styled for fall/winter wear? I was thinking of pairing them with booties, or even ballet flats and a very simple blouse or top.

Is it even worth trying??

Well I just bought some drapey harem pants at Zara for the fall so I HOPE they can be styled for fall/winter! I am planning on wearing them with my high top sneakers or my combat boots. Or my other booties. I have a couple cropped length tops and toppers that will work with them When it cools down, I will experiment. Right now...too warm to even consider trying on!

As long as the material is heavy enough for your winters, absolutely. Booties, shooties, and all manner of flats/pumps should work. You could also try mid-calf boots for a more jhodpur look.

Marlene lovely ideas! I don't have any cropped toppers but I'm already dreaming of what I have to pair harems with. It is so warm, I have only been wearing harem pants with a cami and gladiator sandals.

Aida and Angie that makes my heart incredibly happy! I don't know why I hesitated. Perhaps because this is my first time sporting harem pants. I'm not certain the fabric is heavy enough. But I'm gonna give it a good try and see what happens.

If the fabric has a good drape to it and wouldn't look totally off with heavier cool weather knits/jackets, you could always try popping on a pair of tights underneath for added warmth

Aida I had not considered tights! Brilliant thinking! The fabric is light to mid-weight jersey, drapey but not substantial. I think tights are a good idea.

In LA I wore harem pants in the winter, the temps are 58-75. Here in the Northern California mountains where the winter temps are 38-62 in the winter I wasn't reaching for them. I tried putting tights on underneath but they were too clingy against the rayon knit fabric. Even with the heavier weight fabric pair I have (I have 3 pairs of harem pants), I found them too loose and thus airy for my own winter temps. My advice is to wear the heck out of your harem pants in September-October and then again in Spring or Summer. That is, if you don't live in a place like Southern California where you can wear them year-round.

CocoLion well that's good to know. Sigh...I live in the Colorado mountains, so the temps in the winter are usually 30-45 and extremely windy when it's not snowing. I'll have to try and see what happens. Sometimes I'm really brave and flit about in very lightweight clothes during the winter. But I've lost a lot of weight, and find that cold affects me more than ever before.

I'll be wearing the heck out of them! I ordered a 2nd pair. I even fell asleep in them one night. When I woke up I couldn't help thinking "These could be dangerous and become a daily uniform!"
