Mochi's Halogen jacket is on super sale now. The taupe is gorgeous, of course, but I already have a taupe jacket. Mind you, mine is a slightly different taupe, but very similar style, including the knit inset sleeves. But I felt that leather in store and was in love with the softness and light weight of it. Both my leather jackets are heavier.

I still don't have a black leather jacket. In fact, my only black jacket is my vintage Hobbs wool crepe with 3 button stance and shawl collar. A fun, retro piece but not modern looking.

I have to go to the border to make some returns anyway. Would it be silly to order that Halogen jacket to try in the black? And would it be best in regular or petite for me if I did order? Sadly, I wasn't able to try it on in person in store because my sizes were not available there. But for reference, the Tahari jacket fit in the 2.

I vote pass on the halogen, Suz. I think you need a jacket with a higher collar, or mandarin collar. This jacket looks so, so, so good on shorter necks, larger bust, and apple shaped body types. You do not fit that body type.

(I'm really bossy this morning).

I really want you to get lighter weight leather jackets though - and this jacket would have been the right weight. And it's beautifully buttery too.

Hi. Not Angie, of course, but I don't see anything silly about trying this one in black. The leather itself is so buttery and gorgeous, and it's such a flattering cut.

You seem to be long-ish in the torso as per your proportions. If you recall, even with short-waisted me, everyone here thought I did better with a regular rather than a petite size.

Good luck--I think it might work out great! The price can't be beat.

cross-posted with Angie. I don't know....is it going to be a hassle to return it? I think a scarf would mitigate any neck issues. The Nordstrom models certainly don't look like apples.

The only reason I asked is because my jacket is cut very much the same way. The tiny difference is that there is a bit of a collar on the back. Not sure what that type of cut out collar is called but it is visible in second photo.

Of course I can't find photos of me wearing my jacket without a scarf or a turtleneck! But that also tells you about how I dress in autumn/ winter, I guess. Mostly high necks, rarely a top without.

ETA looking again, it also seems as if the stance is higher on mine (if that makes sense) -- which probably helps make it work okay for me. That is, the V that the front opening makes is not as deep. Am I right?

The cut is extremely similar to mine IMO. Wearing a turtleneck or popping the collar of a buttondown would help a lot. Of course Angie has the best eye, but to me it all depends on how difficult it would be to ship and return if it ended up not working.

I'm eyeing this too, as I have been lamenting the loss of my leather blazer that seems to have gone missing (extra painful, since it was a hand-me-down from my Gramma).

You don't want to be tied down to wearing the leather jacket with scarves and turtle necks alone - at least, I wouldn't be, Suz. The collar edges are higher on your fab taupe jacket, which makes all the difference.

I tried on the halogen jacket - and it did not work. I don't have the suitable body type for the fit and silhouette. It looks so much better on Nancy than it did on me. Forum member Christy bought the jacket too - shorter neck, fuller bust, and apple shaped. It looked so spectacular on her, I was virtually reduced to tears. It was her favourite item that she bought at the sale. Nancy, I was virtually reduced to tears seeing the halogen jacket on you too. Killer stunning.

Angie, thank you -- that decides it. If it didn't look good on you, it probably won't on me. And as you always say, the devil is in the details. Those collar edges on my jacket probably make the style just possible for me. Plus that slightly higher stance.

Onward! The right lighter leather jacket exists out there somewhere and someday I will discover it.

Thanks so much, Angie and Suz. I just took the tags off that jacket yesterday, after being convinced that the price drop justified it. Till then I was *still* pondering returning it. It's mine now!

I just can't wrap my mind around something being designed intentionally for a busty apple. It has to have been an accident.

Hah! I was dreaming of the Vince scuba jacket when it was available in a taupe-y mocha that looked like just the color I could really use. It was only a dream, though.

Nancy, it may not have been designed for a busy apple, but it works on one.

The next time anyone feels tempted to say, "The models look good in everything," really look --- past the makeup, staging, and glamour. Because honestly, the models don't look good in everything. It is true, with their long legs and coat hanger shoulders, they look good in lots of things that would be difficult for most of us to wear. But they almost never look good in:

Wrap dresses
Surplice anything
Low or wide V necks
Collarless styles (unless they have long hair or short necks or are fuller in the bust than is common for them, or maybe if they are wearing a high buttoned top underneath).

That's just a start of what doesn't suit most of them.

None of those styles work very well for me, either. And all those styles look great on women who are fuller in the bust.

Guess what I just ordered? No full bust here, but short neck and some tummy and I do like the cutaway front. I told my husband I was tempted by a leather jacket and he said without hesitation, and before I told him the cost, "buy it!". Both petite and regular sizes are on the way after rereading Mochi's thread.

And using the new math skills I have acquired since joining YLF, it really only cost about $92 if I average it with the cost of the Spiegel leather jacket

Yeah, short neck and large bust looks great in this... you have that long elegant neck. I was very, very sad that this jacket is lined in poly. :_( The PS looks soooo flattering on my stubby neck.

I wondered if you would succumb to trying it with the price reduction, Suz - I remember how much you liked the leather in the store...
Honestly I was tempted myself with the black one for this new price but I guess it won't work for me either for the same reasons...
Did you get a price adjustment for your NAS stuff yet? I calculated yesterday and it would be around $80 for mine - just to ofset the tax I paid on the border. I am planning to call CS tomorrow. Oh and foxcroft tunic is 50% off now so I consider ordering one as well...
