My hair is very similar to yours. Currently I am growing it a little longer in preparation for my wedding. Is it appropriate for a 35 yo woman to wear barettes and headbands?

I wear headbands, although I am younger than you. I never wore them when my hair was long because it looked too juvenile even for me, and my hair wouldn't stay neat enough. Your hair has to be very well groomed. J Crew has fabulous headbands (most of which are not available online), so check there. They won't be as girlish as some other stores. Anthropologie has some beautiful options too.

I love hairbands! I'm 21 and have slightly shorter hair! I wear a mixture of reallly out-there hairbands and plain hairbands, depending on my outfit and mood.

My favourite ones are this zipper flower one: http://adressandabike.files.wo.....29-nov.jpg and a feathered and zipper one: http://adressandabike.files.wo.....v-15th.jpg

I also wear thin plain colour ones as well in both styles of hairband. However the thin elastic ones do look more juvenile as they tend to come with bows or small jewels.

I think that a refined barrette can work with your specs, Juliet. But other than that, I wouldn’t wear any other form of hair accessory with your specs. It’s too cluttered and juvenile looking after a certain age. Dainty headbands are sweet sans the specs and I would probably leave it at that. I hope that makes sense.

I used to wear a tiny little Chanel barrette with my specs at the age of 36 but have given up on that look. I’d still wear the barrette on its own but that means I wouldn’t be able to see :0)
