Ask Angie: Fashion Week Accessories

I'm really interested in your insider perspective on the accessories used in the shows during FW. If a designer does not have an accessories line, do you know the process used for selecting the shoes, handbags and sunglasses? In this instance are the accessories more a reflection of what is available now rather than a glimpse of future offerings?

Great question.

Some designers use their own branded accessories in shows - like Tory Burch. But it's not that popular. I think it's up to the stylist to add the final accessory touches to the runway show. Each show's programme highlights the name of the stylist right after the designer!

Did you know that most design houses make their money by selling accessories and footwear - not the clothing.

And I think for some of the houses make the most off of cosmetics and perfume.

Thanks Angie, the inner workings of fashion houses and fashion as a business are fascinating to me. You really scratched an itch! Are stylists usually tied to one fashion house or do they gallivant from one to the next like the hair and makeup teams?

I'm not sure whether stylists work with several designers - my guess would be yes, they do. And quite right - hair and make-up teams work with all designers.
