Hello Angie and everyone, I am in need of help. As part of celebrating my upcoming 40th birthday in May I decided to be more adventurous. Even though I am adventurous in my fashion sense I am more of a hermit crab when it comes to a social life. I am attending my first concert.

ESSENCE PRESENTS: LEDISI "THE TRUTH" TOUR WITH SPECIAL GUEST ROBERT GLASPER

The concert is this coming friday. The concert has more of a new-soul jazz sound in terms of music. I found some wonderful faux leather basketball shorts some would call them suffer shorts. I just wanted some help in how to style these I have a picture. Any and all advise welcome. The event will last 4hrs from 8:00 p.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Oh fab! That sounds like a great show, and a fun opportunity to dress up.

I'm not Angie and I don't have her styling knack, but my first thought was a beautiful silk blouse in one of your favorite colors (or prints), perhaps with a blazer, sexy heeled sandals or pumps, and a great clutch.

The shorts are fun. You need something soft and feminine on top. Or if you're layering, a very short or very long jacket. Girly shoes. Let the fashion parade begin. xo

Angie -Thank you for your speedy reply I will be playing dress up tonight I am hoping I can wrangle my young niece into taking some pics so that I can post them for opinions. I love the hard edge of the shorts and I am more of the the Urban Warrior Night UWN so I tend to stay away from the overtly girl but I am willing to try.

Fun! I like the shorts.

I would probably try wearing them with booties, or some of your great cut-out heeled sandals or shoes (do those lace up?). On top something more structured, like maybe a jacket with a nipped waist or sharp shoulders over something more flowy that has an interesting or sexy neckline and that works well with the waistband of the shorts (sits right over it or semi tucks well or something, isn't too long)

How do you feel about showing off your legs?? Can you roll the shorts up a little? They may be fun that way. A drapey silk top and cute shoes would go nicely with them I think.

If it were me, I'd maybe go for my platform cheetah sandals and a peplum top... well maybe I don't have a peplum top in the right colours. So perhaps my cream silky button down with the leather trim/collar. And my white furry sheepskin "blazer."

Rabbit- Thank you, truely you remembered about the cut out booties and shoes. I cheked my jacket selection last night and they just wont do it feels like I'm going to a conference instead of a concert. The shorts do tie at the the waist and also at the leg opening. I have an equipment blouse that drapes I will try on. Great ideas.

KKards- thank you for the birthday wishes my b-day is on May 9th but my niece will be graduating then just starting the celebration for myself early.

I was thinking along the same lines as Angie and Janet, a soft blouse to juxtapose the leather and then either girly shoes or short stompin boots. As an aside, WOW is her hair awesome or what!?
