Ask Angie & Everyone: Taupe Sweater Showdown

I need help deciding between two sweaters. Both taupe, which is usually a harder color for me, but both of these have a nice silvery color that works well. I'm a bit torn about posting because I suspect the answer will be to keep the one that I'm not as fond of, but on the other hand, I could be completely wrong about that. You'll see what I mean when I list my criteria.

I've been wanting a taupe sweater for a while. Ideally it would look just as at home at work as with jeans when I'm out with the kiddos on the weekend.

Photo 1--This sweater is lighter weight, layerable, and washable. It is slightly sheer, so I don't think the photos do it justice because they imply it is bulkier than it looks in person.
Photo 2--This sweater is heaver weight, dry clean only, but still lovely fiber and probably more slimming.

The sweater in photo 1 is new yesterday. I have had the sweater in photo 2 since NAS, so August. I still haven't pulled off the tags, though. Both are returnable. I like the sweater in photo 1 better and it seems to meet my requirements better too. Or maybe I'm just smittened with a new item versus one I have had for a while?

Which one do you prefer for me?

I know #2. That's the Theory Jillian! I tried it in navy and adored it but left it in the store because although I felt it was flattering and lovely, it was already pilling a bit, and at that price, I didn't feel too happy about it.

I actually really like #1 on you. Flattering, interesting.

I vote #1 as well. Like Una said, it has a more interesting shape, but it also seems (maybe it's the lighting?) to have a slightly pink tint that's more flattering for your skin tone.

@Suz: You clever girl, you! You are right. That's the sweater. And it is funny, pilling is exactly one of the concerns rattling around in the back of mind about sweater #2. And maybe slight itchiness (but I'm not particularly sensitive to that sort of thing...then again, I noticed it, so maybe that is an issue).

K if there is a chance of pilling and itching - it is a non starter.
That leaves number 1 as the hands down winner.

Drat! Angie, very legitimate points. Hmmm. But...#1 reminds me of the navy Allsaints sweater that we bought together. Like it and my black and white sheath dress that we bought, this sweater appeals to my secret, mod sci-fi side. And I've been wearing both the Allsaints sweater and sheath dress to death. DH loves the Allsaints sweater too. (Although, oddly, each time he sees it, he asks me if it is new and then tells me how much he loves it. Go figure.) Well. At least I'm going into this with my eyes open now! And when you ask me next spring how it worked out for me, I'll probably owe you a latte.

If you love #1, then rock it!

#1 by a mile. Very flattering and more interesting. Washable is more practical for MOTG times.

K, the All Saints sweater is quite different - but do correct me if that is not the case. I remember it being much cleaner and streamlined. High-low, but not vented like this style. Crisply Slouchy. Not Messy Slouchy. The effect of the All Saints is polished and sassy - and that's your look. (I'm just the person to go on about those types of details making the difference).

That said, you live in a climate where BOTH will get worn a lot. So by all means keep both. xo
