Ask Angie (& Everyone!): Oversized Coat

I was ecstatic to see the oversize coat post this morning and particularly to see the recommendations on fit. I have two oversize coats that are fairly old, but I've loved too much to get rid of. Both are excellent quality. First is dark charcoal whipcord. Second is black with a tie closure (which I forgot to grab when taking the photos). I think that both of these fit the proper fit parameters. What do you think?

(Please ignore the wrinkles. These are straight from storage. Also, apologies for the overexposed pictures. Getting the details of these dark coats to show was pretty challenging and I thought overexposed but more detailed was best!)

Yay = Totally fabulous oversized wonderfulness.

LOVE!!!..this is just oversized enough to give a nod to changing fashion while still retaining structure.

I think they look great. I'm pro oversized. It's easy to bundle up over thick clothing & I think the look is elegant. Yay for great coats coming out of storage.

These are fabulous and you wear them so well! The first one is my favorite of the two, but both look wonderful.

Una, the second one has a detachable fur collar that I probably should have put on too. I think it finishes the jacket better.

I'm so happy to see these returning again because I adore these two coats!

Thanks, Angie! Grey definitely is a better color for me. I really should have included the fur collar on the second one. The sheen and warmth of it (even though it is black) really softens the coat and fills out the neckline.

So glad these are on trend and done right!

I can't really are the black one well enough to comment, bit I LOVE the first one in gray. You look stylish and very much an individualist.

These both work to my eye. I actually like the grey color of #1 and the style of #2...but they both have strong points!

Love them both on you but esp #1. Can I say I am slightly envious that you kept your oversized coats, I did not and am missing them after todays post.

@Glory, I know. I've given away so many things only to have them be the perfect thing the next season. I was even feeling like these should go last year. But then I adjusted the belt on the gray one, moving it up about 6 inches, and while I was doing it, I just realized that there was no way that I could let them go. They just made me too happy. I think it helped that they were always a little bit of a fringe look, even when I bought them. So glad to know I'm not alone in liking these.

Glad you kept them, I like them both & if you don't want to wear the fur collar & don't want black near your face you could wear a bright scarf with the black coat!

I love both of them, so glad you kept them. However if you don't mind me saying, these don't read to me as "oversized". While they are not 'fitted' they certainly look like they fit in all the right places. Both of these create a somewhat different look to the oversized coats in Angie's blog. I actually prefer these

Thanks, Deborah! You are the Queen of Layered, Drapey Loveliness, so I really appreciate your thoughts on this coat. You always balance volume, even volume on volume, so perfectly and so flatteringly, that a big thumbs up from you is a ringing endorsement! The fit on the first jacket is actually surprisingly like the fit on the Rick Owens coat that Angie posted. It has the same rounded shoulders--actually both do. But the belting helps control the volume. I notice you often belt for the same reason. Gorgeous!
