Ask Angie & Everyone Else: Looking for a New Winter Coat

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a new winter coat as my old winter coat which has lasted two winters is looking quite worn out and needs repairs which my tailor priced for me to be around €60. So as I have never been quite happy with this coat, I think that it may be time to bite the bullet and buy a 'big ticket' item this winter. I'm owed overtime pay for this month so I should be able to afford it in the beginning of November.

I'm definitely looking for a colourful coat in either blue, green or red but I wouldn't say no to a navy or patterned neutral coat. I took a look this morning around the shops and only one coat really stood out to me: http://www.oasis-stores.com/Mi.....4500024715 I tried on the blue version of it- see photo below in a size XS.

Other than that, two other coats have stood out for me: http://www.asos.com/Kookai/Koo.....lack/White

I guess the big question is whether I can wear double-breasted coats or should I stick to single-breasted coats. Apart from that, I know that I want a knee-length wool coat with a waist tie.

KILLER blue coat, Dawn. Can you layer effectively underneath it and have the sleeve length adjusted?

I vote the photographed coat as opposed to the others posted for sure! The DB detailing does not bother me.

I can layer under it. I was wearing a thick long sleeve tshirt, camisole, cardigan and thick leather belt while I was trying it on but I think I will go back next week and try it on with a thicker knit top on. I don't tend to layer jackets under my coats so I'm not too worried about that but I might bring my suit jacket along anyway to check.

I wouldn't pass up that blue coat. It is perfection on you.

I saw the corseted coat too and thought it was interesting, but perhaps a bit too heavily detailed. I like the more subtle detailing on the blue military coat, and the color/fit is so pretty.

You've made me want to buy a new coat! Thanks a lot...

Dawn this coat is gorgeous on you! Such a great colour. You can definitely pull of the DB look - maybe because you are so petite? I do love the shape of the 2nd ASOS one, but I think you are on the right track with going for a coloured coat instead of black to brighten up a winter's day.
