Ask Angie: et all BR tailored/fitted button down

I tried 6P fitted last week and the concensus was too small. So this week I am trying on three more fits to see which one is the best.
#1 ) 8P tailored

#2 ) 6P tailored ( one size down from #1)

#3 ) 8P fitted

Which one fits best? Please excuse the hair and makeup less face. This was right after running.

I like 6P tailored. Sleeves fit better. Good for you for running!

I like 2 and 3 the best. I think 2 would be better for layering over and 3 looks good on its own.

The 6P looks a little tight under the arms. I like the 8P. Have you done the sit-down test?

I was going to say I like the 6P for the sleeve length, but now I'm curious about the sit-down test. What is that and what does it determine?

Mona, to be honest, I buy my stiff button-downs pretty much like the 6P fits, because I use them as layering pieces and I am very uncomfortable with lots of extra fabric bulking up. It all depends on how you want to use them. If a solo piece, perhaps you are best off with the 8P but try it on under a sweater or blazer first, to make sure you are comfortable with how the fabric behaves, under other layers.

Vicky, I think the sit down test is to make sure the buttons do not gape when you sit down

Angie, I did the button down test and actually all of these shirts passed it. Do you like the 8P tailored or fitted on me? #1 is tailored and #3 is fitted.

NicoleD and Ceit, thanks for your input. An idea as simple as using a slightly fitted button down for layering under sweaters, is new to me. Funny how it never occurred to me!

I really like the way the 6P tailored *looks* but pictures can be so deceiving. You won't reach for a shirt that cuts you under your arms, that's for sure. It has to be comfortable and able to be worn the way *you* want to wear it. I like mine under a blazer but not a sweater, for instance. For me, there is too much drag under a sweater unless the shirt is shiny silk,

I like the fitted shirts best, and I think you should decide how freely you can move in the 6P. If it passes the sitting test, and it is not restricting, I think it will be easier to layer under other pieces - and it looks good on you. I agree that the photo makes it look a bit tight in the arms, but Claire has a point, too, you wouldn't *choose* one that obviously is too tight, I'm sure.

I like the way the 6P looks at your shoulder line, but did not initially notice what Angie pointed out about the underarm. Comfort is a key for these blouses.

FWIW, I've found these BR blouses to run ridiculously small. I'm normally a 6 and size up to a 10, at least, in these tops. It's crazy.

That's interesting Kyle. I think you are right - I wear a size up in these, too, and yesterday I had one on and wondered if I should have gone one size higher....hmmm.

Mona, I think I prefer the tailored version on you but I am torn about the size. I would say whichever one feels best. Agreeing with Kyle -- the 6 seems a bit better on the shoulder, but Angie has a point about it cutting under the arms. You wear white so well - can wait to see some of your layered looks.

I WILL say, for these shirts, that they wash and wear really easily and are long-wearing. I've had one of mine for 3 years and it still looks brand new. I wear it relatively frequently, too, especially in spring and fall.

Mona, you look beautiful in white! I like the tailored version best for you and I say choose whichever is most comfortable. Great wardrobe addition!
