Ask Angie et al: what are the trendiest non-slouchy bottoms for Spring

I am trying to make a very short and well thought of shopping list for Spring/Summer 2013. Something Angie posted on Una's thread about leather track pants being the most on trend bottom item for Fall 2013 got me wondering what is the equivalent for thi Spring/Summer? However, there is a strong restriction, since I assume that the answer is going to include something slouchy/baggy/BFjeans etc. Excluding those options, what type of jeans/full length pants that is tailored or body-con would look most on trend this season?

Hey Tanya, obviously not Angie, but based on all I've seen on magazines et al, I would say printed denim, either in floral or geometric patterns. Also, anything in a black and white print seems to be the ticket. What else? I have seen lots of cropped skinny styles in bright colors. I guess we are passing on the last one.

I have seen a couple of printed trousers ( widelegs) that looked pretty darned nice. I cannot remember for the life of me where I saw them.

I've been wondering about printed wide leg pants, too. I still have the red paisley ones I got at Zara last year, and have been wondering if they still look on trend.

Janet, I hope Angie chimes in, but based on what I saw on the Spring displays downtown last weekend, I think they are still in.

White cigarette pants - 2 pairs
White Brocarde like cords with a visible leather stich ( Feragammo ad)
Cigarette orange pante
High waisted fairly narrow not slouchy but not skin tight either black pants. ( front creased interesring lines)
Vertical Black and White Flared Jeans
Purplish Straight leg front crease pants and tunic - gucci
Geometric print skiny crop jeans
White Eyelet Straight cut Pants ( well Cavalli)
Cobalt blue/purplish skinny pants with black and white loafers, burgundy sweater and navy coat ( a picture in a career women article)
The general feel is :
MOD eye-popping prints (LV, moschino) in black and white . 70's drape with bold colors ( Gucci)
Monochrome and Graphic bold Black &White on shapes and clothes but also on accesories
Mix monochrome with Brights
Pointed toes courts, block heels
And a few pastel and white baggy masculine and sever rather than slouchy and drapey pants.
I will get back with some pics if you think it was a fun "on the spot exercise" .
If i had to chose i would chose a pair of printed front creased cigarrete cropped pants and one very minimal and architectural "skinny" black pants or in a dark color

Also , i think a white pant in your desired cut will be very trendy . All white is very proeminent. On the cover
Adding some fashion week milan and london skinny or not very slouchy looks. But i don't have an eye good enough to filter a trend from them. Just for eyecandy

Thank you all for all the replies, photos and links! Lot to ponder about.
I do not wear cropped pants for two main reasons: they are not allowed at work and yet look pretty bad on me. Shorter cropped langths like clam diggers are fine but still not allowed at work.
Looks like the main things are white and white/black/geometric. I own quite a few pairs of different white jeans and new white/ black side "Split" skinnies, so I might be already covered. Hmm...

Yeah, that sounds cool . After all, it's all in the ensemble. And white bottoms are going strong for spring. Bless the all-inclusive fashion era

Floral, printed, stripes, tuxedo, patches, distressing, ombre... there's a lot out there. I think the common thread would be "statement" pants. If you aren't making the statement with the volume of BF jeans or track pants, then the statement comes in prints and embellishing.

Sounds like the gals have you sorted, Tanya. The number one trend in bottoms at the moment is CROPPED. Which is not your cup of tea. Pass

Patterned bottoms are huge. Floral and ombre in-particular. Tuxedo striping. I think you should get a pair of pleated high waisted pants too. You wear that look well

I am interested in this post as well. I think I will really enjoy my Leith track pants, but they are not really a work look. Neither is "trendy" I guess, but I would like to be thinking "modernized" and adding one pair or so to upgrade my good ole AT trousers. So, trying to see if that would be tapered, straight, or slightly slouchy but in a trouser fabrication (wool or a blend, microcheck, tweedy, etc). I found "straight leg" AT curvy trousers online as suggested by YLF'er but only in navy so far.

Thank you very much for all the replies! It seems that some kind off a patterned/skinny jean (in full length for me) is a way to go.
Now, I do not like ombre ones (can't explain why), and why I like the idea of floral ones, I am yet to find a pair I like. Una, pastel florals sound great, but I would never be able to get away with them at work, and I do want to wear whatever I buy to work. I bought a pastel floral Equipment blouse last spring and I believe wore it total of 3 times, as I was teased mercilessly (in good nature, but still) that it resembles old grandmother' curtain.
I love tuxedo detailing, but I might already have too many: the tuxedo pants in #1, Rag&Bone sapphire tuxedo skinnies in #2, Rag&Bone split skinnies (very recent purchase) in #3, as well as black pair from H&M and taupe/olive pants I recently posted worn with my Gibson blazer. Which I believe leaves me to geometric prints.
I like stripes best, but I wouldn't mind some small geometric allover print either. I really like the striped Hudsons in #4, but would they pretty much serve the same purpose as #3 in terms of outfits? How about the navy version in #5?
Confession: I am swooning over the crazy print Mother pair in #6 but not in a million years would I be able to get away with them at work.

Ah, that is a good question Una! There are no official restrictions, but anything too eye catching would definitely put me under a spotlight in a bad way ( see my earlier post today about "No Yellow Pants" email). So I would guess that the pattern would have to be either a small allover one or something very monochromatic. I have worn my Hudson python skinnies (#1) to the lab, but they look grey till you come really close. I am yet to wear the split skinnies but will do. Ombre would work I just do not like it. So stripes, polka dots, small geometric prints, small monochromatic florals? For example, these polka dot Marc Jacobs (#2) would work and I love them, but have too many white jeans as is.

Ah, that is very sweet of you Una! Thank you for offering, it is the thought that counts. Yep, something like that would have worked. But the length would be a problem. Why are you not wearing them? They are gorgeous!
Please do not put so much effort in trying to find the right ones now, I will probably not be buying them till the end of April anyway. I have just started this thread to try and figure out what my options are. I always start new season planning around jeans/pants and comfy shoes, and everything else is built around them.
