...but NOW they are on sale $51 less than what I paid for them, I should have WAITED.

I have not worn them outside yet, only in the house, so they are new looking. The receipt says "...will gladly exhange or return your purchase... within 10 days ...unworn condition". Today will be 15 days. I will still try returning for credit but what should I say to them to make the process easier? Any ideas?

gosh, this is hard because technically they don't have to do anything. It doesn't hurt to call and ask though.
I'd call and acknowledge that I know I'm past the 10 day window, but could they please consider refunding me the difference?

I have successfully returned things past the return due date. I simply ask *nicely*. I don't make any excuses (unless they are true). I would just say something like "I realize I am a few days past the return timeframe but I was hoping you could still accept this return. Thank you for considering my request."

Many times they will give you a store credit instead of your money back in a situation like this; hopefully you will be OK if this is what they say.

I'd try too, but with the idea that if they didn't refund my money (and they are under no obligation to) that I was happy with the shoes at the price I paid for them when I bought them, so no loss.

Use your Canadian politeness to your best advantage now. LOL (I'm Canadian too.)

Wow--it's tough working with a ten day return window (says the self-proclaimed Queen of Returns). In this case, I think going in and being really nice is the only way to go. If they don't give you the money back, look really sad and dejected, and then ask if there is any way they could give you a store credit. It's not ideal, but you could rebuy the shoes with the money and then you would have $51 left over for something else down the line (even if you only end up buying socks).

I hope it works out. Unfortunately, once you're past the time frame, the only solution is to be nice and look a little pathetic (if that's a look you can pull off!).

I would just try to return them and let them point out the day limit. I've returned things before a little outside of the window and they haven't said a word. If they enforce it then you can be politely surprised and ask for an exception. It also makes a difference where you bought them, some places will match the price.

I usually don't point out my knowledge of the rules I'm trying to get them to break at first, and simply ask for a price adjustment or a return. They might not even check how many days it's been. And if they do notice it's been a couple days too long, my theory is that people feel more comfortable breaking a rule (and thus are more likely to break a rule) if other people don't acknowledge that a rule is being broken.

Steph and Kristine said what I would say. It sounds like you do want to keep and wear the shoes, right?

If they were bought online, then calling to ask for PA is better than just returning outside the 10-day limit.

Angie: They were (gulp) $180, now down to $129, so about 30% off. I have learned my lesson about shopping and not waiting for sales.

Thank you ladies for the good vibes -- I got a refund for the difference in price!!! He did give me a bit of a lecture about how head office doesn't approve, but "...as a loyal customer who has bought several shoes from (them) in the past couple of years...", I sincerely thanked him and appreciated the exception he was making in this circumstance.

Happy shopper!! Happy feet!!

note to self: don't buy sandals until July -- you won't wear them until then anyway, and then they'll go on sale.

Yay, thanks for the update! The lesson I learned from circumstances like that was to purchase from places with longer return windows (especially if the same item sells at several different stores). I *never* wear anything immediately, so I feel your pain (but I have learned to use it to my advantage).

Forgot to mention, with the refund money I bought this blouse (also on sale) from Eddie Bauer in a blue-grey print not listed on the website, but at least I can show you a visual. It looks way better in person than online.

That is fantastic! I'm glad that it worked out for you.

My mom has that Eddie Bauer blouse - it looks much better in person, and the ruffles are very understated. I just saw her wearing it last night.

Ann Taylor is very good about this policy, too - or at least they were last time I encountered the issue. I bought a dress on sale, and the next week the dress went down even lower in price. They refunded me the difference and gave me the adjusted sale price, no questions asked, without my ever having to bring in the original dress. Totally fabulous service.
