Are they any good in the snow and ice? I have some thinsulate boots but the soles aren't great and I've skated the whole way home tonight!!! So am half considering a pair of dcs. Are they sturdy on the ice and do they keep your feet warm?

The soles are half the reason Docs are special. No problem slipping in snow and ice and they hold up to grease and other things as well. But I don't know that insulation is their stongest point. Depends how long you want to be out trudging in snow, I think.

The snow we currently get isn't deep so probably wouldn't go over the depth of the soles. Does the thickness of the soles keep out the cold from underneath? I stand around on a cold playground with the kids after school and can feel the cold creeping through the soles of thin boots and are they true to size? I wonder if thick socks would help? x

The sizing was English when I bought mine way back when so I got a 5 for my 7 1/2 US foot. The soles are a good inch, maybe inch and a half. I left them back in CA, so this is from memory as best I can recall! I definitely wore warm thick boot socks with mine.

Louise, Docs are my go-to snow, ice, slush, sleet and rain boots - as you saw on the snowy Thanksgiving Day post. They have the best traction and insulation. And last forever plus are killer comfy to boot. I'm not a snow boots gal - give me Docs instead.

I have a pair of Aletta Doc boots and they are great - so versatile and the heel makes them that bit more flattering without sacrificing comfort. They are great in the rain and puddles here in San Francisco. They do run a bit big.

I am lusting after a pair of knee high lace-up ones. Might have to put them on the Christmas list. I was such a Docs wearer as a kid so I am loving the resurgence.

I think a pair of Docs is on my wishlist for next year now! (can't really justify another pair of investment boots this year...) I wondered what you were wearing in that post, Angie, and noted the 'weatherproof' description. We're in heavy snow at the moment and I'm wearing v unfab wellies but keeping dry. Louise - go for it on those Docs and I'll enjoy them through you!

You're all such enablers. My only problem now is deciding which to get!! there are 2 pairs I love http://store.drmartens.co.uk/p.....-boot.aspx and http://store.drmartens.co.uk/p.....-boot.aspx Got to order a 6 and 7 as not sure of sizing and think I may have to order both styles then decide though knowing my luck they will both look great and i'll end up not being able to send either back!!!

Yes, both I think. I browsed the website after your post and was also thinking those lace ups were great. I liked the patent ones thought as I have tall black boots now.

Yep, obviously this subject has been on my mind as well. That cold seeping into your feet through the concrete/pavement is unbearable after a time. Those boots are charming. Let us know how they work out! I wonder if the lace-ups could work on petites...

Oh I hadn't seen this thread yet. Well, you all know how I feel about Docs and snow by now, so I won't bore you with the details;-)

I love both pairs you picked, Louise. I only discovered last week that they have these in grey now. Verrrry nice! But I could absolutely see you in the purple ones too. Post pics soon!
