Ask Angie: Dr.Martens shoes

Dear Angie, I am a YLF fan and form habit of checking the site everyday:-) I remember your post about Dr.Martens boots with clamdigger last winter. I love the look but was not into the style of the boots. Now I'm crazy about Dr.Martens 20-eyelet boots and would like to buy one, Zappo has 3 colors, black, black smooth and patent, i'd like to ask your opinion about the difference between black and black smooth. I'm a petite person and usually wears size 0 or 2 or small. Thanks!

20 eyelets are fabulous and I have two pairs, but they are very tall. As a petite they will come up too high. I am 5 ft 6 and I am just tall enough for them:

My suggestion would be to try the 14 eyelets. Petites on this forum have had great success with those.

I am assuming that you are petite in height? Or do you mean petite in frame?

Thanks Angie! I'm 5 ft 3. I love knee hight boots, pity that 20-eyelet will be too high for my height. the 14 eyelet has many models, which one is the classic style?

They're lovely, I remember being crazy about Dr Martens back in high school, but I didn't par them with such cute outfits (grunge style, omg!), Hmmm, maybe the tall ones will be ok? I think it depends on the leg length too. I'm sorry I'm not too much of help

I'm not Angie, but I'll try to answer your question about different leathers, JZ. I think the black smooth is a bit tougher to break in (I have the red smooth). There used to be a silver black leather and another black, which were softer.

I believe Angie also has a white patent 20-eyelet pair.

Whichever pair you decide on, they are great sturdy (and well cushioned) boots.
