Ask Angie: do these fit in the toe box?

Hi Angie, these are the replacement black sandals for the ones I got on sale in Noosa, Australia in March 2017. Those ones you said after seeing the pic, were too tight in the toe box. I couldn't believe it at the time as they felt all right in the shop, and I couldn't return them,as final sale. But you were so right! Two wears, and the second wear so tight I couldn't wait to get them off. So in the end $25 Aussie per wear, and they've gone. I was so disappointed
This time, these came from Styletread along with the bronze boots which I am keeping. Still within the 30-day free return period. These were just under $90 NZ on sale. I love the style and gold studs. No outfit lab yet, these are just my cropped jeans and old Mamma Mia T-shirt I pulled on for rescue mission to pick up Neil who had a bicycle tyre puncture while cycling to his Saturday morning work.
They feel comfy in the house?

Just by photos, I would say they might prove to be the same problem. How do they feel? I guess I would suggest trying a wide width in a shorter size?

Oh dear, I don't think they come smaller. These are 36 which is the smallest size for most brands. I wondered if the side of my big toe felt a bit odd after taking them off. Maybe I need to wear them around the house for longer. I see what you mean- they do look like they come out quite a long way at the front?

The first pair definitely looks too long and too narrow, but the new ones look ok. But, since youre questioning them, they probably dont feel perfect! If you have doubts best to keep looking.

I see you might be sized out, but they look too big. You don't want your toes off the sole, but there seems to be too much of it after your toes stop. I'm wondering if a smaller size might reposition the straps to a more anatomically correct place? Or you might need a wide(r) sandal.

Next time you are in a good shoe store, why not get sized by a pro?

They look too long to me. I have a square, wide, smallish foot and I have this problem a lot with sandals. Look for a toe shape that is squarer and less elongated, and think about wide widths - if I size up for comfort in a regular width the toe never looks right in a sandal, although I can sometimes do this in a closed to shoe. Getting sized by a professional can be eye-opening. Also check the side view to see where you heel is vs the heel of the shoe - it should not overhang or have much space.

To my eye, they look too narrow (the toe strap) and slightly too long. Which is a huge shame, because I like them a lot! I can see why the style appealed to you.

You might be able to stretch the front strap -- sometimes I have this issue with sandals and occasionally a little stretch does the trick. But that will only work if the shoe fits overall (i.e. the last is excellent for me otherwise).

Honestly, when I think how different our feet are (I mean all of us, in general) it is a wonder to me that any of us ever finds a shoe that fits.

I agree they look too long and too narrow on you. I have a bit of poison eye for too much sandal showing beyond the end of a person’s toes (and for toes hanging over, on the other end of the fit spectrum). I think you need a wider cut.

I'm another one whose initial reaction is that the sandal is too long--there's too much extra sole beyond your toes.

The new pair might indeed be too narrow: in pic 3, it looks as if your left foot (that is, the one on the right side of the pic) is overhanging the footbed quite a bit at the base of the big toe.

I would keep looking. Too bad, because they're really cute.

I think I might try them on at the end of a day when your feet have been put through their paces and see how they are. They are cute and I like the black and gold detailing.

Thanks for all the thinking. I don't want to make the same mistake again. Trying at the end of a day is a good idea Jane. Will also get Angie's opinion hopefully. They are just so me with being dainty and lowish heel and gold hardware

Jenni, hope you don't mind my honest opinion, but I think, even though you like dainty, because of your foot shape, less dainty would be better for you.

Of course I don't mind Anchie! All good, that's what the forum is for.

Jenni these are beautiful sandals, but they do appear too long for your foot from the angle of where you are taking a photo looking down on your foot. Such a shame, because they look so nice on you. However, it is far worse to waste your money on shoes that don't work, when there are so many lovely shoes that do!

Another suggestion: I have a narrow foot but have found even with my feet that those relatively thin straps that cut directly in a straight line across the forefoot like that can be the worst for comfort. Especially with a little heel — your foot is pushed downward into the strap, and it ends up cutting across your foot not only visually but physically, causing pinching or discomfort. A more diagonal style of strap is often more flattering and more comfortable.

Jenni NZ, the second set of sandals fit better than the first. They still look a little narrow across the strap though. I suspect you need a Wide size in sandals sometimes. Does that make sense?

I second some of the others. Broad sandal straps tend to be more comfy. They also work well with the proportion of your foot.

I too have short toes and have more than a few problems with open toed sandals and the sole extending too far beyond the toes - especially with dressy sandals. (I get a little sad when peep toe shoes become popular in the spring.)

Comfort brands of sandals work best - not only are they more substantial but the sole shape (and straps) work better with my foot. It’s tough to find comfort sandals that aren’t too heavy looking, but they’re out there. If you look through some of the posts from Barking Dogs blog you may get some good ideas (not knowing what’s available to you locally.) ETA http://www.barkingdogshoes.com

If these are leather, you can stretch by wearing the sandals around in thicker socks, won’t help with it being a little too long, but help with loosen up the toe box.
