Lisa - I have similar coloring to you (depending on which hair color I use any given month, LOL) Right now I've gone a bit redder and darker. I agree it can be tricky to get the shoe thing right with this type of hair color. I agree with Angie that richer reddish browns and cognacs are more interesting than mid-range browns. I wear a lot of black shoes, because I like to elongate my legs, and don't want a lot of contrast with my (usually dark) pants.
In general, I do feel better in shoes that are dark, as opposed to lighter colors. In the warm weather, I like bronze, which for me is basically a metallic version of brown. I love the look of cream shoes, but for me they're tricky. I feel I can wear a white or off-white shoe if I have white somewhere up top in my outfit - for instance a camisole or shirt.
For accessories though, I like to work with my eye color more than my hair color. I have hazel eyes, so I like purples/wines to bring out the green, or warm gold/bronze to bring out the gold.
