Is it OK to wear nude stockings with peep toe shoes? I have tried no stockings - hurts my feet, I have tried peep toe peds - they always show. I love peep toe shoes, but my fussy feet don't. What to do?

Hmmm. I am on the fence. It depends on the size of the peep-toe.

I think Angie's going to say yes to that one. I heard Clinton Kelly say you could show toes with hose/tights but not heels (as in with sling-backs) but with all of the new sandal booties and shooties and shoes with cut-outs, who knows anymore?

Oops, I was wrong! I'm assuming your hose don't have the reinforced toe, too.

My personal opinion is no. I don't like seeing toes through hosiery (looks like webbed feet), so I don't like any hosiery with open toes unless they're really opaque tights.

I sympathize about the peep toes! I've just about given up on them.

For the non hose option, I use a) foot petals to make sure my feet don't slide forward to create that pressure and b) strappy strips to line my shoes or c) just throw away the shoe that I shouldn't have bought!

Yes, they cut into my toes, ouch! I bought a really cute pair last spring and I thought they would be comfortable, but alas, they were not meant for all day wear. The peep toe is not small, and I haven't tired them with stockings and probably won't. Peds show and I end up feeling like some old granny!

I'll have to try the shoe inserts, maybe that will work!

Or maybe instead of plain nude stockings, make it look deliberate, like in this photo I found on the internet?

In my personal opinion I'd say no too. Although I could suggest that if you applied a little Vaseline on your toes, the areas that usually get rubbed by the footwear, you might not get rubbed at all. I've used Vaseline often on the back of my ankles and last toe where I usually get blisters with new shoes or a lot of walking in not-meant-to-be walking shoes (I'm very guilty of this) and Vaseline keeps me comfortable!

I understand that there are "rules" but I find them amusing as like all such rules.they are whimsical and can serve to constrict us rather than.liberate us. Nude hose used to be worn with dressy sandals routinely and I find all these naked legs at dressy events somewhat odd. Just think of all the ups and downs with footwear..

Anyhow, a true peep toe does not show more than one or two toes and you may find you are comfortable with hose even if the high fashion police are turning up their noses. I find peeptoes can start.off.feeling comfortable and then start to cut.. the main problem is that there is less selection in closed toe s hoes that are dressy but with wedge or lower heel whereas they seem to.make more peep toes like that.

I had to sign up just to tell you what works for me. I wear high heels all day, often through airports. It's Band-Aid Friction Block. Portable, non-greasy and a lifesaver.

Have you tried Band-aid friction block stick? That's helped make my peep-toes more comfortable.

I can't wear peep toes very well either!

I would say no hose. I know in Australia you can get nude hose (or tights as we say) with a hole so your toes are bare. I've never tried them but I'm guessing you'd have to get a very good nude match so your toes don't look funny.

I have never heard of Band-Aid Friction Block or of putting Vaseline on one's feet - I will have to try both (not at the same time, of course, lol)!

I have a terribly stylish friend who wears darker hose with peep toes in the winter months and it looks just great. I think the nude stockings may be more of a tricky one to pull off.

I have tried the block stick for blisters and I swear it made it worse. I will try the vaseline.
I have one pair of peep toes that is wonderfully comfortable so I think it is all about where on your toe the shoe hits. Sometimes I try on a shoe and it's fine on one foot and killer on the other (not in a good way). Other people encounter this?

Mia, I've had the problem of one shoe not fitting a lot. I had bunion surgery on my left foot a few years back, and that foot wears an 8.5, and my left foot - which needs bunion surgery but I haven't done it yet (cast for 8 weeks and a ten pound weight gain due to no exercise and too much eating does NOT appeal to me), that foot usually wears a size 9.
My right foot doesn't hurt so I keep putting the surgery off...maybe this summer....

Bunions have started to be an issue for me too. More so on left side. There may be such a thing but I wonder if a "shoe buddy" would be in order. Do you have to buy two pairs?

Mia, it's not bad enough where I have to buy two pairs. But added to my other fit problem of having narrow feet, it does make one of my favorite pastimes (shoe shopping!) a sometimes frustrating experience.

I made it up! I was thinking if you found someone with same size and also need two sizes you could swap out the extra shoe. I think I saw something about a service that matches people that way. I am glad to hear you don't need two whole pairs to get a fit.

I also like shopping for shoes with a friend who also has issues for some reason even though I shop for clothing alone. Maybe it is that the frustration level is helped by my friend being there. Sometimes when they buy I get a vicarious thrill!

I totally understand re the narrow issue as one with really narrow heels and fairly narrow feet. I find the very expensive Italian shoes the best I just shelled out big time for a walking shoe but am thinking they will outlast the three regular pairs they cost and get more "playtime". Cost per wear is my mantra....
