Ask Angie: Body type (with pics!)

Hello there...found this forum as my boyfriend and I have differing opinions on what looks good on me. To get an objective opinion, we decided to post pics on here to get objective thoughts on what body type I am... so we can stop getting in arguments on what works for my body type and what doesn't. Hi Simone and welcome!

I am by no means an expert in this, but I'd guess a rectangle or a straight-ish hourglass. Do you wear the same size on the top and the bottom? I am sure Angie will chime in here.

I don't think that top is very flattering on you, I think you could do much better. Also, forgive me for asking this, but have you had a bra fitting recently? The one in the photo does not appear to be fitting you quite right. You'd be amazed at the difference a proper bra can make.

Anyway, I am sure you will soon get many more opinions on this. The forum is a lovely and very supportive place. In fact, it can be quite addictive

Hello Tanya and thank you for the input and chiming in with your honest opinions! No reason to be forgiven...I'm asking for input so want it given to me straight up!

And no, I haven't ever been fitted for a bra but after going through this forum for a few days, I'll be driving down to my local Nordies to have one...

I can see how this will be addicting. Hopefully we can get a clear read on what does (and does not) look good on me and my shape...so I can take advantage of a boyfriend that LIKES to shop! :O

Oh...and I tend to wear a size bigger on the top because of my shoulders/arms but depending on how much I've been exercising (which lately hasn't been much and these pics were eye openers...yikes!) the bottom is creeping up to the same size.

Hi Simone,
I am no expert on body types so I will leave this matter to more knowledgeable ladies on the forum. I just wanted to chime in on the turtleneck sweater. I think this sweater emphasizes your midsection and makes you look thicker in places where you are not thick at all! You look much more shapely and slim in your tank top picture, which clearly tells me that this sweater is not the right shape or material for you.

This forum is great and this is just my first post! You gals are all stars for saying it as you see it...hopefully more feedback will come in over the days to get a better read on what body type I am!

Welcome sgs! Thanks for posting pics. You are an adorable apple. Does that make sense?

Treat yourself to a professional bra fitting a soon as you can. It will make a HUGE difference to how clothes fit. The best bra shows off your waistline and creates curves in all the right places.

I’m with the lasses on the turtle neck. You can do better to showcase your cute shape. Let’s get you in the right bra first and take it from there. Keep us posted.

Hi Angie...thank you for giving me your thoughts so quickly! That completely makes sense and no wonder I like apples so much...I'm a Fuji Apple! I am going to get out for that professional bra fitting to see what kind of a difference it makes and I'll certainly keep the forum updated...

As for the turtleneck...looks like the debate is heavily weighted in one direction, so the boyfriend and I will go together to go buy something that works for les apples!

Hi SGSimone, welcome! I'm glad there is another apple around here - I think you and I have very similar body shapes!!! Like you I'm often a size bigger on top.

Fully agree with the others that the SS turtleneck is not flattering. You look so much less top heavy in your previous pics!! Good luck shopping for a new top - can't wait to see more pics from you!

Hi yublocka and fellow applet! Thanks for the warm welcome and I'm glad I'm not alone in the apple department. The more I read about apples, I realized I got it from my mom because she's got great legs and a rather flat bum so may as well work with heredity!

I believe the verdict is unanimous on that turtleneck top...

Good to know you think we're similar body shapes. I'll be doing some super-trolling tonight to learn more about the adorable applets... Do you tend towards anything else as well? I read that Catherine Zeta Jones and Elizabeth Hurley are also apple shaped so that was inspiring as they always look great! (Not that I have their bodies and they probably have sylists, but...)

Also, the cuffed pants in the outfit make you look short. I would suggest uncuffing the pants to maintain the visual line down the legs which will lengthen (thus slimming) you

First of all I think you are not an apple yet- too young. You are an "M" shape. Just means your hip to waist ratio is not the anthropological ideal of a 12 inch differential. You have actually the most common shape of the human woman. Yes ladies anthropologists have studied our morphology and the model shape and the 'ideal shape' (hourglass) is the least common shape. When your bust and hips are balanced as yours are you just need to trick the eye into thinking you have more of a curve at the waist. The wrap dresses and tops look terrific on our shape. The jeans with the pocket detail in the back are right on. Stay away from block shaped jackets that hit the high hip. Any sheath with princess seams or bust darts will look good on your figure. The sweater causes the eye to go across your body giving the illusion of width were you are not. Like others said 'not your best look'. You're going to look good in a lot of different styles.
