Ask Angie: Boden White Skinny Jeans

I'd love to get some info from you about the fit and quality of the white skinny jeans you featured in your recent Boden post.

Is the sizing pretty consistent with what you usually wear in jeans? I find that white denim tends to run small.

How is the length? I'm considering the 6L as I would need the 33" inseam to achieve PPL.

How thick is the denim? Are the pocket linings visible in the front? I bought a pair of BR white skinny jeans, and they are really thin- not necessarily a deal breaker because thick jeans and GA summers don't mix well. I'd just like to know what to expect.

I'm not Angie and I haven't ordered those particular jeans, but I've ordered several jeans and pants from Boden. In my experience the garment measurements listed on the garment details for each size are pretty much on. (It's one of the things that I love about Boden, that they give such detailed measurements on each particular garment in each particular size.) As far as thickness of fabric goes, it seems to depend on color. I ordered two of their skinny jeans from the clearance earlier this spring and the light violet was too thin for my preference and I sent it back, whereas the floral print with a cream background is just fine, and I've worn it several times in WIWs.

Boden quality is excellent. The stuff is very well made - and all my stuff accept for the coats and blazers - have been through several washing cycles already. All still very pristine looking.

As for bottoms sizing - they run one to two sizes small compared to BR and AT and JCrew. Their size 2 (the smallest size) is equivalent to size 0. If not a little smaller. I wear a size 0 at BR and JCrew - and my Boden white jeans - the ones you saw in the Boston post - are a size 4. So size up. The measurements on their size charts are quite accurate - to Laura's point.

Also, Jewell, it's rare to find white jeans with no front-pocket show-through. I always take mine to the dry cleaner and have them snip out the linings and sew the front pockets shut.

Laura, I went back and searched for the detailed measurements after reading your post. Thanks for pointing that out! I didn't even notice it the first time.

The suggestion to size up was just the kind of guidance I was hoping for, Angie. Thanks for getting back to me!

April, thanks so much for confirming my suspicions! I've owned three pairs of white jeans in my lifetime and tried on half a dozen others, and I'm almost positive there has been some amount of pocket-show-through on every single pair. Maybe I'll keep the BR ones and have the pockets snipped and sewn shut. Do you remember how much you paid for that little fix?

I'll add my belated chime-in on two counts: first, Boden's quality is just fantastic, and second, their measurement charts are right-on and very helpful.
