Ask Angie: Birkenstock variations

Angie, quick question: in your opinion, are the classic Birkenstocks (the two-strap Arizonas) the only ones that are really on-trend at the moment? I brought home a pair of single-strap ones with a white patent strap and pink sole (photo here) but now I'm not sure if they fit into the Birks trend or are stuck in 90's Frumpland. I could exhange them for the classic two-strap style in matte black leather with black buckles and regular brown cork footbed.

I love the patent and silver metallic two-strap versions but they're not available in Canada.

Not Angie, but IMO, these fit. It's the width of the straps to my way of thinking.

The two strap Birkie is the on trend real deal. The single strap and thong variations are "not quite there". Those styles are simply riding on the success of the ultra fashionable Birkie trend.

THIS is the look. Choose your colours. Seattle Nordstrom downtown cannot keep them in stock. They are flying out of stores.

I love the black patent ones but keep missing out--I'm a size 38 and every time I get a "back in stock" email they're gone before I can even make it to the Nordstrom site!

Ariadne, I was playing the waiting game all this week with the size 35 black patent Arizonas, too. Same thing with the waitlist email!

So what I did was I just kept hitting reload every once in a while on the Nordstrom Arizona page, and eventually the size 5/black combo was available and I pounced right away. I managed to snag a pair this way, even before the waitlist email was sent out.

Also, J.Crew has their own slightly modified versions, too, in white, navy, and silver, but no black or black patent.

I just ordered the silver Arizona from J. Crew and I live in Ontario. They are taking a couple of days to process but they do deliver to Canada for a flat rate of $9.95. Hopefully they do arrive soon!?
