Ask Angie: back to the Boden leopard coat again!

Hi Angie,

I had asked about the warmth of the Boden leopard coat a few weeks ago, but it was before yours had arrived. Now I noticed you said it was warm (all caps, even!) but I was wondering, is it warm for a mid-season coat, or is it warm enough for me to consider for a winter coat? (Keeping in mind I do own plenty of down for day-to-day freezing temps.)

My dear Lesley, it’s tricky for me to gauge that accurately. Let me try.

Remember that I live in the city and am out and about IN the elements. I don’t spend most of the day in a heated car.

I LAYER up because I run cold. Thermals, thick knitwear, scarf, hat and gloves. I can wear the new Boden leopard coat that way in a Seattle Winter with just above freezing temperatures. When temps go below - I wear my long puffer and thicker wool coats. It’s very damp in Seattle. The wet cold is bitter and colder than a dry cold.

I can also wear the leopard coat in the Fall with a cami, cotton and wool blend knit stripe pullover - no Winter accessories. It’s versatile.

It’s a WARM coat for how lightweight it feels. Hope that helps.

Thank you for trying! Maybe I will give it a spin myself.

I resigned myself years ago to the fact that a winter coat that doesn't have down in it will not be warm enough. (As my Minnesotan friend told me, "If your winter coat doesn't have down in it, you're kidding yourself.) But for occasions that I want to look good, I don't mind getting a little cold. So it might work!

Similar to humidity in summer, damp cold really is the worst. We don’t experience it too much here on Toronto, but on those days of 2-3 C and damp, I wish it were -10 and dry.

YES, Jules. Exactly. You get it. The damp cold is very unpleasant, and you don’t understand it until you’ve lived in it.
