Ask Angie: Are these cropped pants OK? Too short? Long?

I am wondering if pants like these would be a good summer pant. It seems like there are some lengths that you don't like, but I don't know if these fall into that range. Picture them on me with flats though! Either loafers, oxfords or ballet flats. They're all the same pants in the pics, just different models. 24" inseam and I have shortish legs.

You are going to wish you never asked me about cropped pants. It's like opening Pandora's Box!

It's not just the length, but the way they aren't tapered enough on the leg. These need to be a little shorter to my eye - especially since you will wear them with flats. I do like cropped pants - and wear them. See exhibit A and B below.

I really like the baggy fit of the ones you posted. With a little tapering and shortening, I would certainly wear them myself.

Ok, so not quite tapered enough for your liking! What is it that makes that point unflattering? Obviously the model has very slim legs, so would these make most legs look stumpy?

I find the effect frumpy and short legged - which I find unattractive. Ultra slim legs do not improve the visual. In fact, in some instances it's worse.

Can you see that from the back view, the hems are more tapered because of the way the model is standing. It instantly looks better to my eye!

It might not make any sense, Raisin. Pant lengths and the way they fit are my thing. So I am extra critical about it.

Hmmm, well they are pulled forward from the back, so they do look closer to the leg. I think this is something I'd have to try on a few pairs in different tapered-ness to see the difference.

Raisin, this may or may not be useful - a pair that Angie recommended last summer, that are similar in length to those you've shown. However, these can be "hiked up" above the calf muscle to that they are a bit shorter.

I'm with Angie on these; they need to be a shorter and more tapered, especially if you'll be wearing with flats.

(OT Sarah I was just thinking of those shorts!! I soooo wish I'd jumped aboard and bought a pair last year, can't find anything remotely close to them right now )

LOL, Aida, they really are cropped pants, not shorts - just bunched up below the knee. I know, I can't believe how lucky I was to get them - from the Juniors dept at Nordie's, no less...(or, no more...depending on how you look at it).

Well, I didn't find them, Angie did - they are Mimi Chica, and I see nothing like them on the Nordie's website at the moment.

Raisin - or anyone - have you tried out any of the slouchy pants at ASOS? The River Island ones look interesting to me, as well as some of the ASOS pegged pants.
