Ask Angie and YLF Gap Sweater Owners

I'm thinking about ordering the Gap dolman cable sweater in Navy tonight before the 30% off with free shipping expires.

I'm leaning toward ordering an XL for my 12/14 frame. I don't want to feel enormous in it, but I often like my clothes are a little on the short side, even though I'm only 5'6"

Any recommendations?

Beth Ann, mine is a petite large and I'm 5' 4" with a short waist. I think I'm pretty much a 12 these days. Used to be a consistent 10 but put on some weight in the past year and am out of whack size wise. I found the blue to be just a tad smaller than the cream.

I went with the size I wear in GAP blazers and button down shirts. Do you usually wear their XL?

Thanks, Pil, your pics were helpful and you look great. Laura --- I never buy from Gap. I must be the only woman in America who can't wear any of their jeans! I did try the Academy blazer, and found the 14 was the best fit.

Can you order a couple of sizes and return one? Usually they have free returns, right?

I took a size up for a roomier fit. My regular size fit fine, but I liked the looseness of the larger one.

Beth Ann, I also have the Academy blazer in a 10 regular for what that's worth. The sleeves needed to be shortened. And I don't have any Gap jeans either : )

Thanks, Suz. I wonder about upsizing for someone like me since I'm more, um, upsized already. I think the sweater will work if I'm tall enough to balance the width of it, if that makes sense.

Beth Ann, I am 10-12 and ordered Large. I think for this sweater the most important thing is to get shoulders to fit. If your shoulders are not very wide Large may work out. However if you can order both sizes to compare that would be the best approach IMO.

Thanks, Sveta! I'm actually quite broad (and square) shouldered. I think this will actually be helpful in wearing this sweater, as long as my chest doesn't ruin the line of it.

I think the Large will likely "fit" but not do what this sweater is supposed to.

Well now, drat and double drat. The blue is only available in large. Maybe this is a sign. But a sign of what, exactly?

I would go ahead and order the large. You might be happy with this as the sweater is VERY roomy. I am always in between sizes - I bought the smaller of the two sizes that I usually wear - and the fit is still large and oversized.

What Suz said and another side note, it seems that the sweater's yarn is not consistent. I went to return my sweaters to my local GAP and out of curiosity decided to try one of the store ones. Alas! No itchiness - I bought the grey.
