Ask Angie and Others: Loafers: should I pull the trigger?

I must say I usually don't like the look of loafers. Never have, even though my mom has always adored hers. BUT, I saw a pair I actually like.

Surprisingly comfy, even though they look hard, they aren't. Not surprisingly cheap, unfortunately. I would get them in this rusty darkish red, the black ones look a bit harsh and serious for me. The vamp is high so no slipping off my feet. It would work as my in-between-seasons shoe.

Probably would wear them with jeans and colored skinnies, possibly casual skirts.

I'm worried these will become dated in two years though, in which case I would rather spend my money on something less fashion-forward. What do you think?

PS: This store offers a great return policy so will probably buy and try them at home with some outfits!

I may be way off base but I see these as fairly classic, Irene. I don't know the high/low vamp rule but I'm a loafer fan and like these very much. Great color!

I think they look great and will be in style for more more than 2 years. They look like a classic loafer to me. The tassel isn't my thing, but that's just me. If you like them and the store has a great return policy, I'd get them and try them like you suggested.

These are gorgeous and I love the color. I think they seem pretty classic to me. Yes, there have been a lot of gorgeous (and tempting) styles like this in stores this season but there's always a few around, so I think they have staying power.

Loafers are a classic shoe and I always have a pair or two tasseled loafers in my closet. If I wear them with a skirt I wear matching tights.
